    Is this a built up diff., or a kit of parts ?

    If its a fully assembled unit then its a bolt in job, if not you need special tools to set the pre-load !

    Why are you calling it a diff differential anyway, one is an abbreviation for the other !!

    Okay in the photos you have attached, that is a fully built diff with the preload alreay set, I assume since you can see the castelated nut with the split pin. I doubt anyone would inseert the split pin without endsuring the nut was set right !

    A quill shaft is purely an extension piece, an adapter if you will so there is nothing complicated about that ! If it were my car I would chnage the bearing, most likely a standard size, commercially available and easy enough to change. Since its out of the car now is the time to do it !

    Thanks for the good advice MercMad

    let me start again

    (01) i have still the old diff on the Stag
    (02) I got the reconditioned diff with the Stag when i bought it not long ago

    So basically 1st have to get the old diff off the Stag and also take of that quill shaft and change the bearing "YES"

    and how can i check that the quill shaft bearing needs to be change~maybe it is OK "no" if i do change that bearing where can i get it from any place local you recommend
    And do you have to remove any of the rear brake hub off?!! have you a link of how to do the refitting pls , as i have lost my book on the Stag awaiting another

    just getting it all in my head
