Anyway, at what stage is too early for you for all the christmas stuff?

Gonna do my shopping over the weekend methinks. Just not sure what to get everyone?!?!
The bf and myself decided not to get eachother much and instead get a nice big TV and a laptop after Christmas. Spend the money on something that we both need and want.

That would be my usual style, only possibly with more whiskeys.

This year I got ahead of myself for once and bought stuff for family on my travels in the summer, knowing I wouldn't be seeing anyone until Christmas (so they're not going to be holiday gifts, they will just have to be Christmas gifts).

As soon as I saw this thread title my blood pressure soared :p

I hate all the Christmas stuff coming in to the shops in October when it's not even winter yet! I really don't like how Christmas lasts for A qUARTER OF THE YEAR (October- January) It makes it so much less special.

That said, I do like the presents :) I'm going to Poland on Friday for a few days so I'll be doing some of my Christmas shopping there :)

I love Christmas but there is a natural barrier there of Hallo'ween. After that away we go!

Haven't done shopping yet but then only got paid for the first time in new position on Monday so point before then really.

I love Christmas, my favourite time of year. I do think it starts a bit too early but its handy when you've got a lot of presents to get. I've gotten my list wrote out, items ticked off, deposits on my son's toys & some money saved. I picked up lots of stocking fillers in Tesco the other day plus got some lovely Disney wrapping paper in Aldi. My daughter is getting a laptop plus some Playboy Bunny stuff which is very expensive but thats what 13yr olds her mad into at the moment. The laptop is for the house but ultimately hers. Obviously getting broadband in for her too as she's obsessed by Bebo. My son is mad into Cars & Thomas the Tank Engine. I go overboard with the kids at this time of year but its worth it. Gonna get them an outfit each this weekend if I can. I really can't wait this year as my 4yr old son is reeeeaaallly excited now & seeing him on Christmas morning will be great, best part of the whole day :)

Also Boots 3 for 2 offers are brilliant.

    I can't wait for the 2 or 3 threads a day...

'Best present to get my GF/BF/Mam/Dad/Dog/Mistress/Binman etc'.

As it happens, I wanna do up a hamper type thingy for my lil brother, he lives in Cape Town, is 10 years old and I haven't seen him in 7 months. What do 10 year old kids like?? Remember that it has to be postable ;)

I think I might start getting some stuff in the next few weeks, I've just made my first few purchases on ebay and I'm delighted!

    In the drunk tank,

****in hate christmas presents, always end up giving and receiving utter bollox that nobody really wants - whats the point in that. just means loads of stress battling the drones in town - "buy buy buy, spend spend spend, accumulate more and more 'things' in order to fill bottomless pit which is my life" - its what jesus would have wanted!

i understand doing it for the kids, but why inflict this on the general population? isnt life stressful enough for yiz?

it starts too early, all the stuff you see out before christmas is the stuff that matters least at christmas, i think there should be a ban on selling christmas toys and decorations til mid november. i love christmas but i get disheartened when i see how it angers people by being too commercial. shops trying to sell you christmas stock from 1st October etc.
the old miracle on 34th street was right, the shops are all "make a buck! make a buck, never mind what christmas really stands for" and it takes away from the season as people are quite rightly tired of it before it even happens, i say we plan a revolution and we hang anyone who breaks our new mid november moratorium on christmas shops

This year I think I'll make the presents that I don't buy in Poland because really I sepdn too much money on presents that are meaningless and crap, whereas home made presents are so much better.

I love the music, but hate the spending. I'm also probably honest when I shouldn't be when I saw I hate buying my brothers, sister, inlaws and nieces and nephews presents, but I love getting presents. Free stuff from siblings with WAY, WAY more money than me. *ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh*

I never think about Christmas until after my birthday because that's at the end of November and I'm not long out of the teenage era when your birthday was the most important day of your year. That was always the family way when I was younger and I still think it works pretty well.

How does everyone KNOW it's Christmas season, btw? Is it the first time you see the An Post / Kellogg's / Coca-Cola / Guinness ad or whatever, or is it the first time you heary Fairytale Of New York, or what? Mine is the first time I hear Fairytale. Granted, being in Germany for a year I prob won't hear it until my flight home on the 22nd!

I think you'll find that it's a Christian holiday, not just a Catholic one.

You have a lot of anger.

Waiting on the 'Snow Watch' treads to begin, these make it much more like Christmas to me, with all the weather buffs talking about highs and lows etc, for me and mine Christmas begins on December 1st when the decorations go up and the outside Rudolph and Santa get turned on.

    Cheers

Christian / Catholic , you know what I meant.

Who are you F*ckin Yoda ??

Swallow some of that Christian smugness and look at yourself before you judge others, isn't that what you lot teach anyway.

I have never once mentioned what religion I am. Catholic is completely different to Christian. It's like Irish is different to European.

Post reported for personal abuse, by the way.

I'd suggest you get some anger management classes if you get so riled up by such a small thing.
