    Folks,
Its probably been asked a million times but I cant find the answer. I am getting Sky+ and multiroom - do I need a phoneline permanently connected to both?
I have not had to have the phoneline connected to my current Sky box due to length of time I have been with Sky or something?
    Is it about to change???

Ya You Do.sky Say Its For Vital Downloads And Ba Di Ba.....truth Be Known Is That By Having Both Boxes Connected To Phone Line There Is No Risk Of Giving One Of The Boxes To A Friend And Splitting Costs.smart Feckers Aren't They:)

I got a letter the other day from sky saying I needed to reconnect mine to the phone line. Problem is there isnt a phone point in the second room and I'm not going to leave the cable hanging there. We havent really used it so I may just cancel it altogether as I was going to order HD soon.

Also do they dial in or do you dial out? And is there a cost involved?

    There is no cost.
Sky never dial you, you would hear the phone ring.
The box is told via satellite when to dial.

Sky have never claimed it is for downloads. Those are via satellite.

The phone is to verify box boxes at same location on mirror/multiroom sub, unless you pay multiple full price subs, and for interactive ordering, e.g. PPV skybox office or pay for Play games.

If you really don't want the phone line take a second full subscription with less packs for the other box.

You can't order Sky+ or SkyHD unless a phone line isavailable at install time. If you don't have multiroom it can be disconnected at some stage later. All new ordinary Sky subs must have a phone unless you pay 37.50 extra. The line can be disconnected after a year.

    Hi Guys,

I ordered Sky HD and multi-room from an agent who had a stall in a local shopping centre. I told him there was no Phone line in the house and he said it was fine.
Since then I have recieved my two Sky cards and I think the installer is coming this week.
Has the salesman messed me about?
I don't want to get a Phoneline just to accomodate Sky.

Will I just get the installer to do the HD box? and then could a wireless video sender be used to transmit to the room upstairs? (i guess Sky box will need a scart output)
I guess i could also use a HDMI splitter and run a cable to the TV upstairs as it is directly above where the box is going and there is only 2 of us in the house so we wont have much of a problem with only being able to watch the same station on each TV.

Is this going to get messy when it has to be explained to Sky that i now don't want Multi-room?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

if u had just one box, they wouldnt really mind about phone. problem is if u have 2 boxes, u are getting the second one at a discount and whats happened in uk and dublin is that people are ordering multroom, giving the second box to the neighbour, and splitting the cost between them. I dont have mine connected all the time, but i connected them now and then. If you have ony one box, ur dish only has one lnb so only one can connect but wiht 2 boxes and the dish have 2 lnbs its so easy to direct the cable from one lnb to ur nieghbour, especially if its a semi D

Not worth if for the amount of use it gets.

You can buy a telephone sender/receiver package pretty cheap much nicer than cables.

But cables work better and if properly fitted are nicer than extra boxes and their PSU modules.
