MTT near the money hand, AK, call or fold?

blinds are 1k-2k, i'm sitting on just shy of 60k, i think 58000, villain covers by about 15k or so. My read on villain is that he is reasonably tight but when he gets involved in a pot he likes to scrap for every chip. I get dealt AKo in mid position and make it 6k (this has been the standard table raise preflop at this level), BB makes it 20k to go and i call (comments?)

flop comes 742 rainbow. BB is first to act and bets another 20k instantly. i've about 40k behind and decide to flat call. As soon as i clicked call i was slapping myself with a big fishy donkey stick.

turn brings a red 5 for a 7425 board, BB goes all in.... 80k in pot, 20k behind... now what!?!??! insta call cos i'm committed? fold and survive?? I know the flop call gets me in trouble, but now that im in trouble whats my move?

fold pf. fold on the flop. u wally.

Why did u flat call for half your stack when you've ace high? If you're not gonna fold on the flop surely a push is the better option?

keep calling. You might hit on 6th or 7th street.

definite push preflop considering how this hand was played

I push preflop here against a BB reraiser. I think flat calling preflop is MUCH worse than folding though.

listen lads the chap is on here looking for some advice not for people to give him abuse...... :(
ditpoker my advice would be to either come over the top of him on the flop [not flat call] or just lay down and wait for a better chance as you would be still in the tournie....

    anyways how it turn out????

He probably hits a 3 against the other guys trip 7s or something...

I dunno with both having comfortable stacks making it 20k back stinks of monster to me. Maybe he has AQ or 77-TT or something and will fold to a preflop push. Push is probably better than fold on reflection but I'd be tempted to pussy out against a tight villan with < 10% of stack commited.

fold or push pre-flop. end of.
    calling pf = bad
calling flop = very very very bad

i agree with pretty much everything everyone has said so far. NickyOD was first to spot it, i'm neither the hero nor the villain in this hand. its actually a hand from the 2000 WSOP, last two tables. TJ Cloutier is on the BB and James McManus is in middle position. Cloutier has McManus covered. Blinds are 10k-20k.

McManus makes it 60k, Cloutier makes it 200k. McManus calls and they see the rag flop. Cloutier bets out 200k and McManus calls on the flop. The turn is another low card and Cloutier pushes. McManus, after a few moments, calls. Cloutier shows A9 and McManus shows AK and takes down the pot with K high making him tournament chip leader.
T.J. vs. Jim McManus (A9o part one). T.J. is in one of the blinds at the 10-20K blind levels. Jim McManus, still wearing his "Press" ID, makes it 60K more from one off the button. T.J. raises back 150K more. Jim ponders, then calls. Flop is little junk, don't remember what. T.J. moves in 200K without hesitation. Jim thinks for about a minute, then calls. Turn is more little junk. T.J. motions all-in. McManus is clearly not happy, and after another minute of chip shuffling, calls all in (T.J. has him outstacked by about 300K). They flip over. T.J. has A9o, McManus AKo. River is no help.

The reason i posted it cos I was reading bits of McManus's positively 5th st book yesterday and read his account of the hand. Even in his own writing you get the impression that he never really thinks he is ahead but is just calling for the sake of calling. Skill or luck? Great call and deserved chips, or bad call and got lucky? i couldnt decide.

EDIT: to include quote with actual blinds and raise amounts.

HJ, is this where the phrase 'screwing like a rabbit' originated?
