    Hey guys

Thismight come across as a bit of a silly question but Ill throw it out there anyway.

We have a 10 month old Cav king charles and just in the last few days have noticed that she is a little bloody down there. She sometimes leaves a tiny drops of blood on the floor when she gets all excited and jumps around. The amounts are tiny...no bigger than large pin head size drops of blood...but the books dont mention anything of dogs maturing in that sense.

If anybody has any experiance or if this is not normal i would really appreciate some feedback.

I assume this bitch is not spayed?

If not then she has basically now reached sexual maturity.

This is most likely the Pro-oestrous phase of her Oestrous Cycle during which a blood tinged vulvar discharge occurs and male dogs are attracted. It varies in length but averages 9-11 days. Then there is the Oestrous phase of the Oestrous Cycle during which the bitch is receptive to the male. This phase also varies but averages 9/10 days. If the bitch is not pregnant after Oestrous she will go into Dioestrous which lasts up to 100 days and during which she normally wont attract or mate males. Then coumes anoestrous which varies in length but averages 4.5 months.

Please keep your dog indoors and safe away from male dogs if you do not want to breed as she will attract males from miles around and they will get to her if you don't keep her in!

Discuss this with your vet as you definitely need to be certain of what is happening if you wish to ensure she does not go in pup if she is not to be spayed.

If she is spayed then also go to the vet for a check over as spotting could be a symptom of various problems.

    She's in " heat "
Keep her in as the others said - She can get pregnant before you see the blood and for a while after it' gone aswel.
You will have dogs picking up her scent for miles !
Don't walk her either for risk of being followed - attacked by straying dogs.

Take her to your vet to discuss spaying her once the cycle is over.

No offence but didn't any of this occur to you to research or check up on before deciding on a bitch ?
It's pretty basic stuff bitches coming into season
