When ever I go to small gigs in Dublin, in the likes of Eammon Dorans or the Hub etc, I see some one taking pictures, and I wonder are there offical phtotgraphers working for the venue or hotpress or something. Their also young people aswell.

So i',m just wondering how does one go about applying for this type of photography job as i'd be really interested (just have to buy a Dslr first but that soon)

If anyone know of this could you let me know please
    Cheers

Depending where they are in relation to the stage, could just be people taking photos or whatnot.
If they're really small gigs, chances are they just know the band and somehow got permission from them. To get a gig like that I'd say maybe try contacting some local bands you might have some vague knowledge of and ask if they'd be interested in having someone photo them? The way I see it, for small gigs, eveyone's benefiting, because the band's getting photos, and you're getting experience.

Well I say it because it alway some right at the stage taking photos and they always have a high end DSLR, I'm not taking about people in the crowd with point and clicks
    then comes to moola:D

Ah now when you say that, do you mean selling the photos, and to who, like magizines and stuff

the band ask you to come take pictures, they pay you and you give em a copy of them for their site or whatever

Cheers, I was just lucky to be in the pit for that gig and when he was on the walkway(forward of the stage) The photo op came, I just used a Fuji F450(point and click) as I remember I think there was a little zoom but not enough to blur the background. Cheers for the comment

i was in a band and got to know a load of other bands through gigging and contacts, and started taking a few snaps at gigs and donating them as prezzies, and then doing their press shots.. and then i ended up getting a single cover that you can now buy in tower!

i hate gig photography though.. sh*t light and you can never get the drummer properly...
