tried to buy 2 (though I don't know any of my friends who would go to this with me to be honest - their loss!) and it only offered me 1 so i took it and now there are none on www.tickets.ie

ok I know some more might become available but pretty happy anyway, cannot wait :)

    Wow!

They were so tight and loud and just... wow.....

If anyone saw a guy on crutches that was me.

My sprained ankle hurts more but it was worth it :p

Was great seeing them but don't know about the sound, vocals were awful, esp when Lou sang.

Some awesome J Mascis solos in there all the same, but the wait for it to start after the support was awful, 10.30 when they walked on stage.

Best song - Feel the Pain

Disappointing night tbh, they came on after 10.30, and finished at midnight. Had to listen to them tune up for bout 4/5mins between each song. Couldn't hear the vocals.
I was pretty pissed about it. They acted like they just didnt give a damn.

Plus the asshole behind me shouting marching man and screaming YEEEEAAARGH!! Man I wish I did ****in hit you now.

You mean the vocals were awful due to the sound or due to the fact they can't sing anymore? J can't sing great anymore, but Lou is fine... I personally liked the sound, nice and loud and the lead was so clear....

They were due on at 10:30....

Oh and Best Song - Kracked or In a Jar.

Well obviously not if I didn't understand what he was saying, idiot.

Got to agree that they were very poor. To be honest its years since I listened to any of their stuff and I went along hoping for some happy memories.

They were on at about 10.40 or so, after what seemed like a fairly long wait. Some guy shouted out "Come on, I've got work in the morning!". Got to say I agreed with him; man, we're getting old.

It seems none of us are getting older than J. though, it looked like Gandalf playing lead up there. Gandalf may be able to sing a bit better though, J. croked his way through the set. I wondered if the sound was cranked up just to make it as difficult as possible to hear J. In his defence he may have been ill, as he seemed to be coughing behind that mane. There was a ridiculous amount of time spent tuning up between tracks as well.

The best track for me was "Out There", the second track on the set. I think it says something when the second track is the best.

I think it was Bill Hick's who had the rant "I want my rockstars dead!"; I think you may have been right Bill :(

I guess being 17 I have a totally different viewpoint on this.... I couldn't care less that the started late, I loved the loudness and J's solos were amazing(sound was perfect for hearing the lead).

They get an F for audience interaction(well, J gets an F, Lou gets maybe a C), but fúck that, I was there to hear them play the songs. They were damn tight aside from the vocals(but seeing as Dinosaur Jr. vocals aren't meant to be 100% perfect by nature of the songs it wasn't a disaster). The tuning between songs didn't really bother me either...

Did they play Does it Float and Raisans?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,794 ✭✭✭JC 2K3

^No, I was pissed off they didn't play Raisans actually.

Vague Setlist(not in right order and incomplete):
    The Wagon
    Out There
    Feel the Pain
    Little Fury Things
    In a Jar
    Forget the Swan
    Freak Scene
    Kracked
    Sludgefeast
    The Lung

Some new songs also and a few I've forgotten

They didn't suck, they were just too loud, that brought it down for me. Friend of mine had to go to the eye and ear hospital after the last gig.

I wasn't too hot on the gig aswell. Their ATP show was much, much better, one reason due to the fact that the crowd down near the stage went crazy. The Dublin crowd were observant throughout, bar a few guys by the front for some of the songs.

While you could be quick to blame that on Monday night blues... they just didn't seem into it. Or were just wrecked from the past weekend. I agree the amount of tuning was hefty, and the sound seemed to falter a few times.

Out There was definetly the best song imo, at both gigs. It was a great surprise to hear it the first time round.

On a similar note, the band and their family/manager/roadies were all on my flight home from ATP. It was nuts. Bristol Airport is quite small, so J, Lou, and Murph were just walking around the place. Then I was standing right behind Lou, Murph, and their entourage when boarding the plane.

Apperantly they saw my buddy at the gig; that's when Lou said "we just came from ATP" on-stage. He had a chat with them before I made it to the Airport; Murph says the new album's finished. \o/

Have to say, it's weird when one of your favourite bands is among your presense. I have a tendency to get quite gushy. :D

^Crowd was pretty shít I agree, I was on crutches though, so the lack of movement suited me, otherwise I'd have been going crazy.

I hope you got autographs and photos with em, freak scenery!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

My mate got all their autographs... but I do regret leaving it 'til after Christmas to get my digital camera. Those moments were tailored for a picture.

Did you see J Mascis and Lou speak at all in the airport or on the plane?

Did nobody else notice that they didn't really speak during the gig, they just passed stuff through Murph?

Whoa, you guys are hypercritical, and it just goes to show how everyone will have a different experience of a gig, especially Dino Jr. I loved the gig. I hadn't seen them before - MCD gig the last time and wasn't able to make ATP this year. Loud? Loud schmoud. I earplugged it and, for a change, the sound in TBMC was good.

One person I was talkin' to said they were better the other night than at ATP. I enjoyed myself, I bought the t-shirt and saw one of the Dino Jr's (Mascis' baby I think) playing with a rubber ducky in the hallway. AWWWWW.
