Im giving my laptop to my mother As she is doing some office course.

And what i want to be able to do is

    1. Remove the " my recent documents " from the start menu

    2. Block access to certain folders line c:\windows And others, As i dont want her deleting things, As she knows very little about computers in general.

    The laptop runs winxp MCE

Are there any programs you can suggest to limit what she can do to folers / files. I have already set her up as a limited account with me as Administrator.

If your most recent documents are things you wouldnt like your mother to see (?) yoo could open a load of other innocuous documents which will overwrite your recent 'dirty' docs.

Don't forget than if anyone on the course has a linux boot disk they would be able to read everything that wasn't encrypted.

make sure C: is NTFS or all users have full control of everything

in her account make sure boxes for don't show protected files and hidden files is ticked - while at it make sure hide extensions is unticked

right click on the folder you want and check security, permissions

clear the recent docunemts list by rightclicking on start menu and delving in
also delete all temp folders start run %temp%

use sdelete from sysinternals to delete any files/folders you don't want undeleted (careful now)

spybot has options to remove traces of what last used - but litterly thousands of places where such info can be found on a pc by someone who knows where to look

You could set the Windows folder (and any others) as hidden, then Do not show hidden files and folders in My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View.

you could just make a new user for her though
