    Hi folks,

    A friend of mines laptop is playing up, on bootup its asking which mode of windows to open up with safe or normal, but no matter which version he chooses it goes back to that menu??

    Any ideas??

    Do you mean for example, he chooses normal mode, loads into Windows, then he does the work and turns off. Then starts up again and the menu is up there once more? Normally just happens if the computer is not shutdown properly.

    No had a quick look at it last night it gives an mbr error on loadup and just loops to that position each time!

    If the MBR is corrupted or missing, FDISK.EXE has a function to rebuild it. You will need a DOS boot floppy disk.

    Boot from the floppy, and at the A:\ prompt type:

    fdisk /mbr

    Be careful with this. The following from Microsoft:
