    ty.

Its part of their schedule for the big week of games. Havent played it before because of the bad rep it has for its crapshootiness but might give it a go this week.

    it is pure muck

(which is probably why I'll be dabbling in Blind Omaha at 8.45pm this Thursday, seeya there Noel)

This tournament has a godawful structure (considering the buy - in). If I was you fellas, I would save my €270 and put it towards the €500 game at the weekend, or play a side game in the EPT.

FFS If i'd known about your blind Omaha prowess I'd never have let you coax me into playing you heads up.

    QQ35 on a Q24 flop.

How the fook can I compete with that shít? Sick.

They've scrapped the freeroll beforehand Eoghan (last month anyway) just €30 and €60 sats now.

10 minute levels. Blinds double up every level. Starting stack 1.5k. Kick -off when they have 10 players. Generally from 5.30 onwards. In short, welcome to the town of crapshoot population you.

there aint much value in playing the stts, just stick to the one handed game, way more enjoyable

Unfortunetly Ian, i outplayed you from start to finish. I was ahead preflop, on the flop, turn and river. I'm immune to your suckout capabilites. If we had a 6th and 7th street, you still wouldnt have caught up. Just face it, i'm a far superior blind omaha player than you.

Still have a long way to go to reach 5starpools level though...

10 handed with two tickets. It's probably a better sat to play as there is less chance of a deal being agreed three handed, so if you play and place you can at least have a full ticket.

The €30 sat often ends up being chopped becasue the blinds are crazy and people are just open pushing so you end up in a 50/50, 40/60, 60/40 coin flip for €270 at the end of the sat if you are lucky.

Better to play the SE tonight Eoghan and if you win >€270 or more then pay in tomorrow imho but I still go and play the odd satellite myself as I can't help myself! :o

Would you believe one or two or even a couple of people on this site thought he was Nick Leeson!!!! Mad.

The real Nick lives in Galway and is very common face on the local poker scene around Ireland.

Should be there tonight if I can keep myself awake and please Smurph, dont sit on my table, I mean that in the nicest way....unless your in a kind mood to give chips away for a change.

Just in and out, got all my money in for 23k pot with KK against 99 and AK 3 way and a 9 on the river and I'm home playing online.

105 players and 18 getting paid, there was about 50 left when I got knock
    out.

Bigdragon, Smurph and a few others were still alive when I went out.

the blinds were extended in this tonight to 45 mins at least later on in it. 15 remained at 5am. 9k, 4500 were 1/2nd afair, so not quite so crapshooty. think it was 1K.2k blinds

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,079 ✭✭✭smurph

gone at 3.40 a.m. with the honor of the bubble:( :(

Ah well, home 3 hours sleep and im bright as a button in work at moment:eek:

Moved table and got fancy with 88 until 10 10 decided to go all in and I got crippled.

Then it was all in for about half and hour. Built my 3K up to 11,850. Then utg with blinds 1K2K and a 200 ante I went all in with Qs5s, met AsJs in the big blind.

flop had a beautiful 5 but alas an Ace on the turn and Im doing the slow walk down the stairs.

The new ante structure was good, although it caught out a few dealers, who took the antes in and then put the flop up, with dealing us any cards. Amusing.

Not breaking for dinner was actually a good idea, if a little bit frantic for the waitress and staff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,724 ✭✭✭eoghan104

I managed to win 2/3 of ticket via a satellite so paid the rest myself. Went out not long after the break in an uneventfull tourney for me! I wasnt huge on the structure to be honest and id much prefer to play the SE game in future. The running antes come in very early (4th level) and double every level from there so each round gets expensive. They need to do a bit of tweaking but i think they will.

I played some Omaha cash and myself and 5starpool were hoovering up chips at the table. I finished of with my biggest winning night ever so a great night for me!!!

That was Des Carney, the bookie. He knocked me out too. I stayed to watch the final table until about 7am when they were still heads up. I don't know either of their names although I have seen them in there a few times. Dennis didn't make the final table, his AKs no match for AJs. Paul Fox came 4th, some older Northern gent came 3rd, Paul Cryan came 8th, and Gavan Bollard came 6th, and the rest were people I didn't know.

My opinion on the structure is this:
An extra 1k starting chips were welcome, but did not really make up for the early introduction of antes, especially when the antes were increasing every level. However Luke responded to comments and from 300-600 increased the levels to 45 mins, so fair play to him on that. Unfortunately it was too late for me as I was firmly trapped in the push or fold situation. When it got down to heads up though the blinds were 4k/8k with a 500 ante and 636,000 chips in play, so plenty of play room left there. I think there are several pertinent points about the structure of this event.

    1. It is impossible to have a good structure, one day event that starts at that time and caters to over 100 people, so in a way it is a victim of its own success.
    2. Luke is trying to find a way to have the best fit possible, as evidenced by the decision to increase blind levels last night.
    3. Luke was talking about making this a 2 day event from next month on. This is not really a runner if it stays on Thursday I think as loads of lads come from the north etc for it., so it might have to move to Saturday if they are serious about this.
    4. Anytime the structure is made more playable, the moaners are the most vocal minority and get it changed in some restrictive way by making it quicker.

It is quite a connumdrum alright, but I think the best possible route would be the compromise one.

Advertise start time as 7 (probably get going by 8). Have all 30 minute levels.
    25 50
    50 100
    75 150
    100 200
    150 300
    150 300 25
    200 400 25
    300 600 50
    400 800 50
    etc etc

I will say something along these lines to Luke, but I am no expert so I don't know if the above could expect to get it finish by 6am (I think the notional ideal finish time for this).

A deal was mentioned at 5.30 when 4 handed for 4.5k each, but rejected, and when I left it didnt look like a deal was going to be made for 6750 each either. They both seemed like good players, apart from one of the guys quirky tendency literally flip a coin to decide whether to call or not. It worked out each of the 3 times I seen him do it though :)

At one stage he raised all in on the button, and I called ith KT soooted, and he flipped over 74soooted. I doubled up but then gave it all back to him. He is very slow to act, but very aggressive when he does. He likes to gamble big time.

Good constructive post Dom. I think the above structure with a 5,000 starting stack might work. However, surely the way to go with this one is to move it to a Saturday, increase the structure and bring a final table back on a Sunday if neccesary? The prize pool would definately bring people back to play it out.

IMO, having the Monkey game on the weekend after this game is not very wise. Asking for a €810 spend in the space of three days on tournament play is a bit much. Maybe the monkey game and the EOM could take place at two weeki intervals? Just a thought.

  • Subscribers Posts: 32,859 ✭✭✭✭5starpool

The monkey game is not a regular monthly thing, and this time at least is part of the bigger festival, but I agree in general that the close proximity it not that wise as shown the last time when only 40 turned up for the monkey game. I expect 60+ this time though.

Also, the stack for the 270 game was increased to 6k this month.

We might try to change it to a seven o'clock start for next month.
