    Hi all,
just wondering if anyone uses the generic replacements for the Canon cameras, specifically the BP-511 or BP-511A series.
By the few accounts on the net I've read they seem to be well under half the price of the genuine Canon ones and out last them as well. So it seems to be a win win situation.
    Any opinions anyone?

I have 2 canon and 2 hahmel (sp) batteries - the non canon ones are a bas**** to get out of the BG grip (for a 20d). They go in no problem but you need a knife to pry them back out of the right hand side slot.

Power wise I havent noticed a difference in the charge time or in how long they last.

I bought a couple of replacement batteries for my 350D about a year ago. I haven't noticed any difference between them and the original.

    Cheers all.
I am getting two Sterlingtek batteries and they are rated at 1800mAh instead of the 1390mAh that the BP-511A gives. So in theory they should last a little longer.
    Thanks for the replies.

I got a spare 1800mAh battery for my 20D and haven't had any problems with it. To be honest it's hard to measure the performance because they both last for ages. The spare is supposed to last longer, I've no idea what the brand is, could be sterlingtek actually.

The hammel ones will not fit the 5d. I found out at the worst possible time :-(

    Merv.

p.s. This means I've hammel one for sale......

I git really cheap 511's over 3 years ago for my 10D. They are as good as or better than the Canon ones. Still going strong.

I must be unlucky so. The unbranded ones I got last no time at all and my Canon battery last ages. Ah well. Another thing on my to buy list

same as all the rest of the replies really. Got a cheap 1800mah in a local shop to use in a grip with an original battery. No problems with fit or use. Gotta buy another 3 or 4 of them soon actually.

I got a 2 pack of 1800mah BP511 replacements from this guy. Very good prices and delivery from New York was about a week. The batteries work great, much longer life than the Canon original
