TV Eye for non Sky Boxes

I spent the weekend installing an aerial and wiring a friends house for TV in most rooms.

The 4 terrestrial channels are now available (RTE 1&2 are excellent, TV3 & TG4 and good) in the rooms, but I would like to add in their satellite system to the distribution amp.

Does anyone know of a TV Eye, like the Sky Eye, for a non Sky STB? Any info would be great.

    Thanks.

    mj

Yeah, just get a Remote Control wireless extender. Makes include Televés, SLx, Powermid, etc. Available in most electrial retailers. Or if in Dublin, try the likes of Peats or Maplins.

    eg. http://www.peats.com/cgi-bin/shop/db.cgi?view=1&id=8773&type=6&sid=1497913x0

Also google for "tv link plus" which is a handly add-on for a Sky-Eye solution that can intercept the return IR signal that normally feeds into the sky box and retransmit to other non-Sky equipment via LED transmitters. Some of the links you will find show diagrams of how this works.

The device will self power from the Rf2 feed coming from an existing Sky receiver or can be independently powered by an external supply if no Sky box were being used.

I use one to control a Sky receiver, my DVD player and Dreambox (non Sky Receiver) from another room just using a coax cable between both rooms.

In your example, trying to control from multiple rooms, you would need a Sky-Eye friendly distribution amp (SLX and others have these) to be able to use a Sky eye solution. Normal distribution amps will not work.

    shouldn't SHOUT it's rude ;)

most i've come across have 3 or 4 freq/channel settings, look for a channel switch on the transmitter

There are 4 channels A,B,C and D on all of them for video. Unfortuantely they all share the SAME channel for the IR remote return, typically 433.085. A piece of lunacy. they should have had 4 remote channel and at 443 or instead. 433MHz can have up to 4kW EIRP locally!

Yes, this is unfortunate. I had a video sender which was grand until a neighbour seemingly got one too. Could watch nothing, as channels would start hopping erratically! It did seem that my neighbour was fond of the adult channels! :D
