WW2 Bomber over Kildare 22.10.06?

    Hey folks,

I know that if I'm going to learn anything about it, then this is the place to look.

I was in my back garden in Maynooth yesterday afternoon at about 3.30 when I heard this beautiful sound in the air. I looked around in the direction of the fantastic engine burble to be confronted with a twin engined bomber. It appeared to come from the Weston direction (flying east to west). Did anyone else see it?

It was dark green with the black and white stripe markings on the wing tips and the end of the fuselage just before the tail section. A second flyover about 15-20 minutes later revealed USAF markings on the underside. From having a look at the net I've found something similar, the MARTIN B-26 MARAUDER.

    Any help?

    This might shed some light.

US DC3, designated as C47 during the war years.

Very cool. Thanks for that. It's definitely the one I saw. It really did have an amazing sound.

Aye. There's one or two planes of that size with twin engine's flying out of Weston. Remember playing Battlefield1942, then going to the shop, only to hear what sounded like a B-17 fly overhead. Wasn't green, tho.
