You know in movies when they always say "That's what [familymembers/friends etc.] do" in some sh*t emotional scene.

Have you ever once in your whole life used that phrase?

Slightly OT, but when a phrase I once heard was something like...

"When you're sitting in a police cell, a good friend will be on their way to bail you out, but you're best friend will be sitting beside you"

I could apply that to an experience I had once, and it was quite a bonding one, so I suppose that sort of applies.

Completely off topic again, but OP I find your username one of the most annoying things ever. Like EVAR. I've refrained from saying it before, but I can't help myself anymore. It instills the type of range only ever experienced by small animals whose parents have been shot by children.

I'm sure you're a lovely person in real life, and I have absolutely nothing against you, but christ that's an annoying name.

You know when you join a forum that you don't think you'll ever post in again and you just type what's in your head. :D

I think it's the "Ya" bit that gets me going most of all. People saying "Ya" instead of "Yes" or "Yeah" really makes me want to force feed them a monkey that's had ebola.
I'm considering paying for your subscription just so you can choose another name.. :p

"With friends like that, who needs enemies?"

The phrase is usually uttered to dismiss the significance of an apparently selfless act. Your average boardsie would rarely encounter such a situation.

Off Topic (which appears to be a theme in this thread and is therefore on topic. Loopholes are your friend): God damn you, Karoma. Damn you to hell

I said that last night to my best friend. What's so wrong about it?

I say it to my sister sometimes when I've helped her out with stuff "thats what sisters are for". She usually says its not, that they are there to share clothes and shoes and stuff.:D

Semi-off topic but the minute I saw your name it irritated me...glad it annoys someone else just as much as me....it's nearly putting me in a bad mood it's so annoying.....the whole small letter, big letter thing.....damn that's frustrating...

Yeah when I hit my brother, or he trips me up... its ok, cos like... I'm his sister and he's my brother... Its what we do. Its not like he's a normal person.

I say it to brush off a thank you from a friend. But I am sincere in saying that I am there for them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 865 ✭✭✭generalmiaow

When I'm in at work and I help someone carry something heavy out I usually say "ah I just wanted to get off the counter" when they thank me profusely for the reasons Caco stated. Once I said "It's just my job" and the customer laughed at me so I don't say it any more. So it is cheesy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,055 ✭✭✭snickerpuss

When my best mate is having a grumble and then says sorry for ranting on i say "Well thats what i'm here for"
Which i never thought was cheesy cos i am here to listen.. Maybe we're both just lame...

When I say it I mean it. Like I sacraficed a night on the town recently because one of the ladies was having man troubles. Its what friends are for.... she'd do the same for me.

More than likely my friends would go out of their way to cause me grief and thats what best friends are for!
