printer set-up problem

    im having trouble setting up a printer.
    i just bought a hp deskjet 3745 and a scanner hp scanjet 2400. however my computer deosnt recognise them when i try to set up, (i have a compaq presario). i really would like to get them going so can anyone help me

    Do these ones have a USB connection? Did you get a driver disc? Are you getting any error messages, if so what are they?

    right ruu this is what the computer told me.

    building driver database>>>the wizard searches for new devices for deskjet 3470

    windows was unable to find a driver for this device>>>unknown device/windows has not installed a driver for this device.

    so i went to 'install new hardware' and was told 'the device is already installed but has a problem', however it wouldnt tell me the problem.
    i clicked to use it as the default printer but got nowhere.

    Ok, try to delete the printer from Printers and Faxes in the Control Panel applet and then go to File->Add Printer and install the printer and driver manually, see if that makes any difference.

    What OS are you running? Are the drivers compatible? For example, my Brother HL1430 will not run in conjunction with my Windows XP Pro 64 PC. It shows in Settings alright but that's it.

    no luck, never mind im going to ring someone on mondayand get them to install it as i havent a clue.
