External are expensive, Internal are hard to find.

You could probably build your own external easily and cheaply enough.

Buy a case, buy an internal DVD burner and put DVD burner in case.

Why do you think internals are hard to find? They are all over the place. If it were me I'd just buy and internal drive and swap out the DVD or CD you currently have.

You would probably be able to get one fairly easily from Dell or eBay for your lappy. I had to chuck my old DVD rom when the drive packed in and got a replacement from eBay. Marx Computers have a similar (or the same) model to the one posted but 20 eurons more, boo.

Got one of these for my 5160 and, very carefully, swapped the plastic covers at the front of each writer. These were the only bits that weren't identical sizes. Saved a fortune not buying at the price Dell sell them for.
