D50 or D70?

    I see now that the D80 is here prices on the D70 are falling. From everything I've read an amateur like myself would be better with the D50 with the stock and getting a better lense when the budget allows, and I know more about what I'm doing. (though I did have an old film SLR for years) Any thoughts. I'm also tempted by the Sony Alpha, but I prefered the Nikons to hold. Didn't like the Canons.

    I bought the D50, and as I've said before on a few other similar threads, I'm happy it was the way to go as a starter slr camera. I got the 18-70mm nikon lens with it and a cheapo 55-200mm which i hardly ever use.
    I just got a tamron 90mm f2.8 macro, i'm delighted with it , its giving me some nice pics. Its really brought home to me what a better quality lens can do. Considering all the other stuff you are going to want to buy if you get into photography as a hobby, you may as well save a few quid on the camera body and keep it for the tripod/bag/filters/new lenses/software etc etc you are going to want to get after a while!
