How is the winning college worked out?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 38 CIT Poker Soc

The Winning college will be worked out as follows:
A set number of players is selected from each college before the tournament starts say 10 per team. Then the top 50 people will score points. e.g 1point of 50th 2 for 49th etc. the team with the most points wins the college competition. This alllows colleges who would not have as many players as CIT playing to have the same chance of winning.
    That ok?

I know you specify that the blind levels will be posted in full a few days before the event. However, the structure of the tournament is a pretty important consideration for those that will need to drive four hours from Dublin to play.

Are you planning an all -in fest:

    25 / 50
    50 / 100
    100 / 200
    200 / 400
    400 / 800
    800 / 1500

Or are you planning a poker tournament:

    25 / 50
    50 / 100
    75 / 150
    100 / 200
    150 / 300
    200 / 400
    300 / 600
    400 / 800
    500 / 1000

We can go get drunk in Cork any ol' weekend afterall. :)

this wont be an all in fest, dont worry i have taken the people travelling into account.
The blinds will be similar to the ones shown in ur second example above. we will just be skipping the 75/150 blind level. we never play that blind down here.
Plus the starting stack is 4000 chips. i will have it up sooner than a couple of days before hand. id say next sunday or monday they should be up.

It will be a good piss up if ye come down aswell. currently organising an after-party aswell!!! should be good.

any more questions just let me know

your travelling 4 hours to play a 20 freezeout with a 20 min clock and no 75/150 level. no value in it imo. good luck to the organisers but wouldnt be worth travelling so far for an average structure.

average structure?????????? sorry but you cant get much better than the structure we are playing. whats the big deal with the 75/150 blind. stop complaining about the structure and using it as an excuse for not coming down. it is an inter varsity event. the purpose of the tournament is to get college together for a bit of poker. its not the EPT for christ sake!

And hope to see ye on friday all the lads from dcu. should be a laugh!

You can do alot better than 20 min levels.

Not taking it overly serious, going for day out or 2 days out depending on how we feel, we are just going down for a laugh.

If all that is being aimed at here is a fun day out in Cork and a good piss up with a little Poker thrown in for fun, then your structure is fine.

From a poker playing perspective it is, as Joe has said, distinctly average. The 75 / 150 level is standard. It exists in order to minimize the pressure on stacks that have fallen below the average chip total during the first two levels and gives more play in a tournament to all players.

20 min clocks are very short for any tournament. When self deal is involved, it can mean that tables are only playing about 12 hands a level. This just means that the tournnament will not have much play.

A clock that had 30min levels for the first four or five, then 25 min thereafter - with the 75 / 150 included would represent a much better structure.

But, in any case - the very best of luck with it.

ya thats fair enough. i see your point of view all right.
depending on the amount of chips in play on the day we might be able to extend it to 25 min blind levels but cant guarantee it until the day.

    anyway thanks for the support

From what i know its not team poker, but a ranking will be held. If all colleges have at least ten, then ten per team. If all only have 8 then 8 it is.

yeah its an individual event but players on teams will be given points based on where they finish or when they get knocked out. top 50 people will get points. 1pt for 50th 2 for 49th etc. the captain of the team will get DOUBLE points. give them a bit of responsability. if you had 10 it would be perfect!

if you want to PM me with your email i can give you accomodation details and directions etc.

there will be an after party after the tournament as well as clubbing in the city after so it should be a good laugh.

    Who's going?

You have to ask Conor that, he is one organising it.
I think 7 are confirmed currently.
