I've looked on the Garmin website and can't find an answer to this.

Have a new flashy Venture cx that just is dying to be uploaded to, but am afraid of buying an incompatible microSD card.

Does anyone know the maximum supported size this unit can handle ?

    Thanks.

See the FAQ page on the website for the Venture Cx. They say it's currently 1GB. They recommend Kingston or Sandisk, but there is one type of card that isn't compatible, the Sandisk Ultra II.

I'm interested in how you get on with it ... I'm considering updating my 'ordinary' Venture for one of those.

I ended up getting a Sandisk 512mb one from Argus which works perfectly (546 - 3439).

Just for kicks I loaded the whole of the mapsource Metroguide v8 for UK and Ireland and it went in no problem at all and works perfectly (the Venture I got on ebay seems to have American base maps but thats irrelevant now i've loaded the flash card).

Not worked out how to check to see how much disk space is left though.

Also got a a battery charger pack with 4 x 2500 mAh AA batterys (long lasting) and got a fiver gift voucher back for my custom which was a bonus.

Have to start scanning my OS 56 map though as the standard Garmin stuff doesnt seem to have have any topographical info at all for Ireland :(

You should have buckets of room... For comparsion purposes, the Ireland + England City Navigator maps are approx 160 Megs. So the Metroguide should take up alot less space than this..

Also, have you tried the free V2 contour maps for Ireland and England?
See here and here. Overlaid over the City Navigator (for rivers and such) it's handy, if still a far cry from proper Topo maps.
