Hey all, quick question... I'm intending to travel to Canada & US in Jan next year for a few weeks but as my passport expires July 07 I'm not sure if I should renew beforehand.

I recall hearing somewhere that your passport had to have at least 6 months left on it if you're going to travel into the US. Is that just bull?

Well tbh I think its the opposite and I know it is for Canada because I got held up by Immigration for a couple of hours because my passport was due to expire 3 months after I arrived there.

    Get it renewed now.

People are advised to have 6 months but when you call the US Embassy they told me that as long its in date . Personally I would rather have 6 months just for piece of mind, all you need is one sticky official and thats your trip ruined. The new Irish passports are now Bio metric so at least you know you wont have to change it again for 10 years.
