The new Betfair Poker software launches at 6am on 30th October 2006 and to play on the new tables you must download the new software.
Betfair Poker will have full authority and control over everything that happens on the new platform. This means that we will have the ability to make whatever improvements we like – and if you want them, we will certainly look into adding them in! Look out for a whole host of new features now and over the coming months.

So Betfair is leaving cryptologic and moving to their own network. I have only started playing on Betfair for two weeks and so far I have been having overwhelming success by my own standards. I'm only playing the £10+1 six pacs and although played less then 100 games I have a very good return, a combination of good variance and poor opponents.

With Betfair leaving their current network I don't know whether to open up a new account with a client on Cryptologic or stick with Betfair and see if the smaller player pool will still leave a healthy number of terrible players.

I know that Rob and Dave O'C play a lot on Betfair and am wondering how they are taking the news.

The new software does look very promising and I know that Betfair is one of the bigger european poker rooms, but will their departure from the Cryptologic network be a negative one for players on the site?

    regards
    Luke

Betfair have so much money behind them that I have no doubt this will be a success. They'll add money to tournaments and have ridiculous overlays until they get enough players. I think it will be terrible for the rest of the crypto network but betfair will definitely continue to do well I'd imagine.

Any chance one of you could post back in next couple of weeks when the new network is up and running and let us all know what it is like and what the tourneys are like on the network

The new network is already up and running, they bought Pokerchamps which is a terrible network but if they make enough improvements it could get there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,328 ✭✭✭hotspur

I never put any proper time into Pokerchamps because there were no players but the software that was created for it was regarded by many in the industry as the best out there, that's why Betfair bought it.

Does anyone have any idea what kind of % of Crypto's network Betfair were contributing? Guess we'll know soon enough, but I wouldn't be surprised if player liquidity became an issue for them no matter how much money they have, just look at Mansion.

Could be some good value to be had in the guaranteed tourneys for a couple of weeks on the new network?

On a slight sidenote, does anybody think that the sterling games(both cash and stt) are fishier than dollar games on betfair or vice versa?

I played Interpoker $1/2nl a few months ago for a good while and found it full of tag's and decent scandies because of bonus whoring/rakeback

i used to play the $10 £10 stts quite a bit and then took a break for a while....i didnt really notice a difference in standards to be honest (maybe the dollar games were a little fishier).....i recently went back playing them over the last month and have found the standard appaling (not that i'm a good player)....

i'll be glad when they move from cypto because some of the crazy cards that happen are sickening on a regular basis, which doesnt happen as much on other sites

What rubbish. If you believe online poker is rigged why play it?

For someone who's been meaning to start playing on Betfair (crypto) for ages, would it be better to wait for the new site, or just join up on one of the remaining crypto sites?

i remember reading dpommos blog and he had to quit cryto for a while because he couldnt handle the crazy outdraws anymore

does anyone know will player notes be imported to the new version?

also, according to the "tutorial" i just watched on the betfair site (http://www3.betfairpoker.com/microsites/update/tutorial/index.html)
there will be no more sterling games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,924 ✭✭✭shoutman

I dont think the no more sterling games business will make a difference at all.

pocket pairs do show together a lot on betfair, and sometimes it does take the rng a while to throw up the river. Prefer the software on other sites myself, although i still play the odd tourney on betfair.

That's a couple of comments on crazy outdraws, pocket pairs, etc. Does anybody have anything concrete to add, or are we just dealing with weasel words?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,924 ✭✭✭shoutman

Well three posts in the bad beat thread is starting to persuade me.

I am joking by the way.

This is just your typical selective memory stuff here. Of course no one has anything concrete, unless they've a database of a few million bf hands to analyse.

i posted that somewhere else last week too, pocket pairs come up with strange frequency.

    Live:
    Player a: 66
    Player b: 99
    Player c: KK

    a limps, b raises, c pushes.
    a folds, b folds
    nobody sees any Pocket pairs

    Online:
    Player a: 66
    Player b: 99
    Player c: KK

    a raises, b pushes, c pushes, a calls
    3 pocket pairs - conspiracy

What advantage would this be to Cryto/Betfair, they get the same commission regardless of what the cards are. If there was some conspiracy/software problem, especially if it was rigged and this was made public it could cripple the crypto network with the bad publicity etc

Im struggling to think of a reason why the network would allow this, surely they have someone who regulates them and also some auto system that would flag irregular stats?

Betfair must be rigged its the only site i've lost money on....

Betfair made £23.5M in 2005. That makes them worth about £300M. If their software was found to be "RIGGED" they would be worth £0. They are probably 'breaking even' on poker at the moment. They provide so many overlays to attract poker gamblers to their sports book..... If they rigged the poker software they might make an extra £1M or so. Actually, £1M would be pushing it - more like £200k or £300k. Do you really think all the Betfair executives and programmers sat around a big round table and decided to manipulate the flops so Joe Bloggs will hit a flush at the same time PlayerX hits a house.

I'm actually annoyed with myself for replying to this post..

I was playing a hand the other day on betfair, I got Ac Ad. The chance of getting this hand is (52 * 51) 2622 to 1, someone else had Qs Js, which is (50*49) 2450 to 1, then the flop came up Td Ks Ah which is ((48*47*46)/3) 34952 to 1. After the flop (when I open pushed for 200bbs) and he called the turn was a 2d (45 to 1) and the river a 3h (44 to 1). I lost over $400 to a 1 in 444,565,742,544,000 (2622*2450*34952*45*44) shot. Rigged? Well im not saying its definitely rigged but you have to ask yourself, do you see more flushes online than off.

Variance. You'll win there well over 350 trillion times out of 444.565 trillion.

    Now I must lie down.
