Just reading through the "Our Republic£ Thread.

I was going to reply in favour for immigrants only to find that the thread has been closed and the Origional poster and anyone who agreed with him BANNED!

This is disgusting, I thought messageboards were for disscussion and not for one-way thinking.

As I said I was about to put a post in favour but the thread was banned. I saw nothing offensive.

Is that the Ireland we now live in? CENSORSHIP?

This thread we prob be banned and myself banned, which is also a frutiless exercise as anyone can re-register. What we need is good honest open debate and not the sterotype censorship that the moderators of these boards have.

it doesnt exist much on this forum. the rule of thumb is toe the line or get banned. also, dont give too intelligent an argument or you'll get banned for that too. you may read this quick cus they'll be banning me again and deleting all me posts!

otherwise though, its a nice forum and has some interesting reads.

Well yes but the "moron" filter is at work everywhere. Doubtless many here would automatically be regarded as morons on some right wing site, even if their views were relatively well laid out and backed up to some degree. The opposite is true here. Horses for courses really. You tend to get the middle to left wing jumping to quick defence in the politics forum(and others) of boards(even inc myself on some occasions and I'm no liberal). If anyone does have a different slant then by all means they should have a voice and not be automatically derided as morons even though many may be(if they can back up their stuff to some degree). It could be argued that there's enough of the boardgrown variety going 'round.

People don't get banned from Politcs for their views; they get banned for expressing those views in contravention of the charter. In this case, bans were for trolling.

If you want a Politics forum where you can post ill-informed ranting tripe, feel free to set one up. If you want one where you are free to express any view you like, as long as you're prepared to do so in a rational manner and back it up with facts, you're welcome in Politics.

The poster posted factually inaccurate and abusive comments.

Therefore he was banned and the thread was locked.

Head over to indymedia.ie for more freedom of speech, they will delete and ban posts there too.

We have already had about 150 of them in the last year alone.

I understand that having only 4 posts you are probably new to Boards.ie, and as such are viewing this as censorship of an important topic, but there are always threads on immigration poping up. This was one of the more moronic ones (Immgirants add nothing to our society and are dirty scroungers ... booo!!). If the mods don't get rid of the stupid threads or the threads designed to just to provoke silly posts then the Politics board would quickly fill up with dribble.

Hang around a bit and you are bound to find a thread about immigration that is based more on points and debates not trolling.

Freedom of speech does not mean somebody else has to publish your opinions for you, indeed it entails their having a right to refuse to publish something.

Actually ther was an argument i.e. that the post was a troll. You really should read the charter before you come here with only ten posts to your name and start dictating how things are run.

and you can just do as you like anywhere else. there are laws which prevent that! You may be entitled to free speech but you are not entitled to an audience. so go home and speak freely in your own house.

Here's the post as posted. As I tend to do with re-registering users who have been banned, this post was removed from the discussion under the precedent I set for myself months ago. Interesting contrast with the above statements. And spelling the name incorrectly set off instant alarm bells in my head.

You Police are stupid too. The other day they told me I must have car tax and insurance. But we told them that we havent been here for 6 months yet and they beleved us! Me and my husband say that if they are too stupid to check record then they are fault. And all irish do thisd too!

tbh boards has drastically declined in the past year. No search options, power tripping mods (bring back Monty, he knew how it was done), the zero tolerance of attack post not poster. Does anyone recall the good old days when, if a poster was being a dickhead, you could tell him so without getting a site ban?

Take the Padraig Nally thread- I made a post where I deliberately made effort not to say anything that could be seen as being racist (which is a bit odd seeing as the travellers are as much a different race as wandering hippies, hermits in the mountains or anyone else who persues an alternative lifestyle, but thats a different kettle of fish). Regardless of this I was banned. Boards doesnt have debates any more- it has one or two mildly retarded bullies in the thread talking bollix they know is untrue, and provoking posters into insulting them to get them banned. They NEVER answer questions which pretty much destroy their argument. In effect, it makes them liars, seeing as theyre posting crap they clearly know is untrue or dont believe themselves. Whats with the "no discussion of East Europeans" rule on AH?!!? I mean, come on! Personally Ive found most of them Ive encountered to be grand, fairly like the Irish in alot of aspects (dont start me on the Spanish, rude bastids! grr). Despite this, I feel that if someone wants to mouth off about an issue they have with some of them, theyeve every right to do so. Theres no rule against anti skanger threads, so why is there one against discussing anti social people who come from Eastern Europe? That in itself is racist tbh.

Often an individual who registers a second account after being banned will result in both accounts being banned. People who register new accounts (or post anonymously) just to act the spa also tend to have all accounts banned.

I left BrotherHood's original account (AdmiralNeo) unbanned for two reasons:

1. He didn't register the new one specifically for the purpose of bypassing his politics ban - Ultimately a quiet PM to me, and he can choose which account to use, but whichever one he chooses, will have a ban from Politics.

2. Banning both of his accounts would a little hypocritical given the whole, "I want you to feel happy using your main account to complain", ethos I take. That is, I tend to take a very dim view of people registering new accounts purely to complain. It's a little like taking part in a protest while wearing a balaclava and expecting to be taken as a serious protestor rather than a troublemaker.

When people say "Boards is going down hill" that translates to "The forum I post in doesn't agree with me or let me post the crap I want". I mean there are 100's of forums on boards.ie and what would get you banned from one forum wouldn't from another.

Also comments like "goading others into abusing them" (sic) well there is a report button function. Rather then shooting your mouth off use that instead, or better yet put the person on ignore.

No, it's important to distant yourself from being described as a racist because nobody likes being described as someone who applies generalisation based on hearsay and rumours to an entire sector of people.

For example, the other day I saw a filthy traveller camp and thought to myself, wouldn't it be better for the enviroment, the economy and most importantly house prices for all the travellers to be moved to camps where they could be "concentrated" into an easily "processable" form. I hear you. Boards should either define all arguments based on anti-racism rules or not at all. You can't just stop what people are thinking. If they want to talk about stuff which is mostly based on their fear of the unknown then the mods who are the muscle that the admins are using to opress the good honest everyday joe user who make up the moral majority of this website.
