    Well!!

How's it going? Got your CVs up? Any interesting jobs online yet?

Those of you who've done it, got any advice?

I have to get interview clothes. A nice shirt or something. I amn't worried about the interview or anything, more whether I end up in a sh|t job or not!!

I have my CV up a while now, three jobs online. I applied for one of em, but so did a load of ppl in my class and its on offer to CAs as well, so probably a load of them did too. But they took on a Fiontar student last year [scraib] so maybe that'll help my case! :)

Bring it on, minimum wage FOR THE WIN!

CA has 15 jobs up now. Few people had interviews today. I dont think any of them applied for the job but interviews were set up regardless. My friend had to go and got the job this evening. Not sure he minds but it would suck if you wanted to apply for one of the jobs in america. You have to accept the first offer given to you so I wouldnt have been too happy if I was in his position

Yeah, thats a huge fear factor in this whole Intra lark. Being forced into a job has to suck!! Though I hope your mates happy.

Anyone else looking into getting their own job? I am, though I dunno how well that is going to go.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,204 ✭✭✭Kenny_D

I wanted to source my own placement but when I checked with the coordinator she said I couldnt ask them because the company took dcu students in the past. Make sure you run the company name by your module coordinator. Is your Intra 8 months long?

we've got 29 jobs up now but only 1 person from my class has been called for interview! intra sucks.

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 4,436 Mod ✭✭✭✭Suaimhneach

We have five jobs up and about 4 of applied for the same one, and only one got it. We're thinking when there are that many applications they just pick them at random... I mean, its a computer job and they're interviewing someone from the applied irish side of our course! But shes lovely and I hope she gets it. Interview tomorrow!

its just a very weird process

HOPING to get an interview sooner rather than later though. I've applied for a few, hope to hear back soon. State labs are up, that'd be deadly.

I was cacking myself last year I'd get a crap job and ended up getting one I didn't apply for (second interview, had both on the same day so didn't have to go through it for too long)

Wasn't too thrilled since I didn't think it was something I'd like but I ended up really enjoying the job after the first two weeks or so...

I'm actually still working there... failed an exam on repeat but they offered me full time for the year.

Moral of the story: INTRA's not as bad as it sounds!

There are 13 jobs online, I applied for 2. 9 of them were only one for ONE day... ffs.

Thank god I am lookin' for my own employment. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,236 ✭✭✭lau1247

I applied for job in a company
Then INTRA put an extra job down for me with the same company without my knowledge..
Then I have the interview for the one that they put down..
But on the same day, other college guys have the interview for the job I applied for myself..

    WTF??
First they force me into a position I don't want to be in because I can't refuse the interview otherwise they'll suspend my INTRA until further notice..
Then they give others the interview of the job that I want but didn't schedule one for me..
    Is that right??

Yeah I must say intra kinda sucks so far..
    Anyone in similar situation?

    Lawl Cook, Lawl.

So far we've had two interviews and one job, in a class of 15. Things are looking a wee bit ****. Glad I am looking for my own job.

intra really sides with the employees, they told us about the intel inerviews the day before we had to go. i was talkin to a fella in maynooth nd he said thy knew about he sam interviews 2 weeks ago! its in a bit of a mess if you ask me

I seem to be one of the few people who enjoyed INTRA at all. My experiences were fine. I went for two interviews, got the second, enjoyed the job. Simple. All I did was keep applying for things.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,216 ✭✭✭phreak

I thought Intra was great too. I only applied for jobs i liked that were in the city centre because i wasn't going to move(lazy ****e and love where i live). Thankfully i didn't get forced to interview for any jobs i wasn't interested in and got the first one i interviewed for.

i'm not sayin i'm not enjoying intra so far, i got the Intel job which was my first interview, but i'm lucky so far, i know a few of the lads are goin mad with next-day interviews and the like.

i haven't had an interview yet... only me and another guy in my class haven't had one yet... kinda worried, even though i know its early days, i'd rather not have it hanging over me for ages.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,930 ✭✭✭GavMan

I've found the whole experience very handy. totally painless so far. Got my job in Ocuco early on. it was only my second interview. They're throwing jobs at CA3 so far. 40 jobs so far i hear

Congrats on the interview and best of luck.

Its not that early on. Its week seven on monday. THATS MORE THAN HALF WAY THROUGH. Where does the time go!?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,335 ✭✭✭rugbug86

I hate it because of the stress thats already going into it. I was the only person in my class without an interview and I have really bad results so not too hopeful.

Interview went ok, hard to tell really!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,646 ✭✭✭cooker3

Well news from Intra 2006 is I have to re-submit intra report so don't believe what people say, they do read your reports, bah!

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 4,436 Mod ✭✭✭✭Suaimhneach

Still no interview... though neither have half my class had them...
I'm tempted to apply for a job that I only half kinda want. I know if I do I'll definitely get the interview though... hmm...

Stress is only something you allow to happen. but it this way, your CV is in and all you can do is apply for jobs and go to the interviews. Nothing more. If they dont offer you the job, theres not much you can do but keep trying.

In my experience results play only a small part of the selection process. My results aren't great either. I've consistently failed two subjects a year and have two passes for 1st and 2nd year and i still got a job before most(if not all) of CAIS3.

It's pretty hard not to get job in ca currently, there are so few students compared to few years ago that there is enough jobs for everyone eventually.

That doesn't mean that companies that come looking for an INTRA student actually want or do take the students they interview. Thus, someone may not get a job

Hope thats the case for me. Been applied for 5 jobs. Three of which are situated relatively close to me and 2 on the opposite end of dublin which will be a pain to get out to. Naturally my first two interviews to get called for are the two that are really hard for me to get to. Not to mention one of them (my first interview on friday) is a crap customer service role in an insurance company that seems to have no relevance to my course except for the fact that I'll probably be using a computer. So far I think Intra sucks. I held off applying for a job because I was told the company I wanted to source my own placement with was putting a job on the system this year. That was supposed to go up last week and never did. Looks like it's gonna be 6 months of being stuck on 4 buses a day or 4 luas a day and working a job a monkey could do

That is why I said it's pretty hard, you really would have to go out of your way not to get one.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,335 ✭✭✭rugbug86

i didnt get the job but have a second interview with a different company on friday

my results would be worse than yours, pass for first and second year, and repeated first year.

How often a day to you log in to cehck if you have an interview?
I'm doin it daily atm. It fu<kin wreaks my head...
    Every few hours like. :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,335 ✭✭✭rugbug86

yea, about 3 times a day just to check like. well whenever i check emails or am online anyway...

    it sucks though.

i'm officially the only person in my class without an intra job!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,646 ✭✭✭cooker3

I checked every few days or about once a week but then again I was trying to avoid the process at all costs, don't worry about missing interviews, Marie will make sure you don't miss them, she is more then happy to ring you up and remind you.

I've no idea how to get to my interview on friday so I might just get lost along the way. hehe

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,835 ✭✭✭StickyMcGinty

someone in CASE3 got suspended off intra for a month for bogeyin up the interview... shes real strict when it comes to showin up/performing at the interview

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 4,436 Mod ✭✭✭✭Suaimhneach

    I know that someone.
Silly billy if ya ask me!

    I want a job already.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,646 ✭✭✭cooker3

I recall last year she sent quite an angry mail around stating few people have been skipping interviews so if you miss 1 then your on your own and intra will not get you job.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,405 ✭✭✭gizmo

Actually missing one gets you a ban of some sort for either 3 weeks or months, I can't really remember. They'll only kick you out if you do something seriously bad in an interview or repeatedly don't show for them.

    Congrats RugBug :)

There still arent any new jobs up on intra for us. Only 18 jobs like!! ffs...
    Maybe on monday, eh?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,287 ✭✭✭NotMe

Ah this thread brings back the bad memories of the intra interview process :p I applied for two and didn't get them, then had to do two interviews in places I didn't want to work... "so why would you like to work for company?" "eh...:o :( ". Then I got sent to another interview that I missed, had a hospital appointment on the same day, and I got suspended from intra for a while. I was starting to think I wouldn't get a job but then I got another interview and I got that job which turned out to be a great place to work. So it worked out ok in the end but the process sucked.

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 4,436 Mod ✭✭✭✭Suaimhneach

Surely if you were in hospital they wouldnt suspend you. Show them your appointemnt card like. Ffs. :(
At this stage I'd settle for being put forward for a job...! Sigh

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,646 ✭✭✭cooker3

    Congrats RugBug!

It took 3 e-mails to them to explain I couldn't attend an interview due to exam been on at same time, you have to be persistant with them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,204 ✭✭✭Kenny_D

Had my first interview about an hour ago and just got offered the job. It's out in Sandyford which is the only problem but the company and job description sound interesting and it looks like there is some good experience to be gained. Just glad all this intra crap is done with now til after xmas

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,335 ✭✭✭rugbug86
