I'm delighted to get Argentina again, it's been way too long since we played them in a RWC.

C'mon Dave, this is no laughing matter - our South American brethern are not to be taken so lightly.

Ok, ok... I'm confusing myself with double bluff sarcasm within itself. Anyway.... who else is going to own up to buying tickets to the 1/4 in 1999 with the sure knowledge we were there? At least France and Argentina gave us a good game :)

Knocked out in the QF's I would imagine.

Yeah but it's in the news so lets talk rubbish about it again :)

Besides, do you really want to discuss Leinster's "performance" on Friday?

I tried watching some of it on Setanta - I had saved myself from hearing the result while watching the Leinster game, but it was just too much hard work to watch. What a dreadful evening unless you're an Ulster or Connacht fan ;)

From what I can gather its either if we win Pool D then get knocked out in Semi-final by South Africa or if runner up Pool D then get knocked out by New Zealand in Quarter Final. Thats my optimistic view on it.

i recorded the borders game but decided to delete it and watch the leinster/munster game again. This evening, i'll be watching the 2001 celtic cup final when 14 men beat 15.

As for the world cup draw....tis a joke...pretty much like every draw made in rugby.

Anyone got a predictor thingy, with the premonitions, instead of just saying we're gonna get dumped at the 1/4's by the AB's

Anyhow, as for facing argentina, I still am terrified of those matches. its nothing to do with team strength at all, the simple fact is I remember being a lad of 13 with my head in my hands, peeking through my fingers in a darkened pub watching that match in the 1999 world cup. it was only that previous year I'd started watching rugby but that was soul destroying to me :)

Ah, so that's where the "beard" growing stems from.

Following Ireland win on Saturday , and heading into the World Cup year with our best team ever , i've just seen the world rankings.

    France (hosts) ranked 2nd
    Ireland ranked 5th
    Argentina ranked 6th

Yes the 3 of us are all together , how is it we have drawn Argentina as the 3rd ranked team for the 3rd competetion running , when they are clearly a top 8 team , and have been for a number of years !

Is the draw conducted by the Scots , they always seam to get a nice handy draw !

Looking at the draw - obviously it is a pain in the a**.

The fact that we have France and the Argies in our group is one thing but what is nearly as bad is that we are playing them as the second last and last games in the group!
This means that we dont get much or a rest between playing our two hardest matches in the group phases and (if) we qualify we go straight into the hard knock out matches.
France - Argentina is the first match of the world cup, they get to play eachother and then have time to recover playing against Namibia and Georgia(??) before taking us on.
If we manage to get to the semi's it will be a miracle.

On that basis we will continue to draw Argentina , and Scotland will continue to get easy draws , as beating Argentina will be a lot more difficult than beating Italy (or Scotland for that matter ! ) .
Look who Wales have to beat to qualify -- Fiji , Canada - they trounced the Pacific Islanders at the weekend, who by default will be better than Fiji , and Canada are probably a 4th ranking nation.
To me the draw is a simple farse - 3 years in a row we get Argentina !

P.S. The draw is foul for Argentina as well .

I have a feeling that we are going to beat Argentina, lose to France and Argentina will beat France. I know this is a little far fetched but if it does happen it will mean we need to get cricket scores up on the rest of the games. Certainly is some luck always getting Argentina. I do agree it should be more of a rankings linked seeding system for fairness
