Yeah there was a piece about it in the match programme on Wednesday. Don't think it specified a venue.

EDIT: Just got the programme out. It's in Dalymount

3 days before season finale - can't see many EL managers letting their players go, except those with nothing to play for.

The likes of Shelbourne/Derry/Drogheda/Cork who'll be fighting for the title, Setanta spots, and European spots, are unlikely to risk letting players out for a friendly 3 days before the final day!

Still plenty of talent to be put on show.

Everything will be nicely sewn up by then!

Oooopps must have been fast asleep or hiding.

If el players are called up then their clubs should send them even if title etc isnt sewn up. NEVER LOOK A GIFT HORSE IN THE MOUTH!!

Wonder what the panel will be.

Best Irish B Match I remember was 1998(i think), paid IR£2 into Tolka agaisnt the northies. Northies didnt have much of a team, ROI team was

    Colgan(Hibs)
    Delap(Derby) Dunne(Everton) Worrell(Blackburn) Maybury(Leeds)

    Kinsella(Charlton) Kavanagh(Stoke) Farrelly(Villa) Duff(Blackburn)

    Keane(Wolves) Devine(Barnett)

Great team, I think only Farrelly and Dunne has senior caps at the time. Neale Fenn came on for Sean Devine, who was not up to much, fenn was a bit better. Joe Murphy I remember him coming on for Colgan, he was with Wimbledon at the time. There was two el players, 1 was from UCD, cant remember the other, must dig out the programme.

Would you believe that team lost to a N.I B team, only player I remember was Jon McCarthy of Birmingham.

    Gift horse? The FAI?

No way would I be happy if a Shels player was playing for Ireland B's just three days before a title decider. Why should the clubs send them?

Gift horse? Sending your player off to an agent acting as manager?

Its in Dalymount by the way.

Why the hell should clubs be expected to send players THREE DAYS before what could potentially be the biggest weekend of the season?

To a meaningless game, where the manager/agent will be picking players to put them in the shop window and entice other clubs to take these players from their current ones.

The only gift this horse is for is the agent's pocket.

How do you figure that? The FAI are doing clubs a favour by having a friendly? Full international friendlies are a shocking waste of time and player effort, nevermind B internationals.

    That's the spirit!!!

We'll send half a dozen of our players over.

Maybe the 'A' team will be there and can learn something. ;)

Is a club entitled to have a game postponed if a player is called up for a 'B' international, or is that just for senior and U21 internationals?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,346 ✭✭✭✭KdjaCL

So Jason Byrne will be up front no matter what form or state his fitness is.

Pat devlin is the manager of the B team and also the agent to a few EL players, as he has already made a good few quid out of selling players to english clubs he will possibly use this as an excuse to sell more so expect a few odd choices in the team. (for those who dont know)

League will be wrapped up by then, only thing left will be FAI Final and i doubt there be any Rovers players in the team, might be one of 2 Derry players tho.

    True.

Although, the Derry players will be probaly too hungover celebrating winning the league title to be able for a B international match.

Clubs are only obliged to release players for competitive internationals.

And if a club chooses to release a player to a 'B' international, is it entitled to have a game postponed (or am I making a mistake by assuming that the FAI has a proper rulebook)?

It's a great, unique spirit we have in our league that Derry's players will celebrate Shels winning the league. :p

There's not much wrong with the FAI's rulebook. They just don't know how to enforce the rules. :D

I'm not sure but I presume they'll just pull them out of the squad if they want them 100% for the match on Friday. Since the match is in Dalymount on Tuesday there'll be no point in postponing games as 3 days is plenty of time between matches.

I don't actually expect a lot of EL players in the team at all given the date in relation to the el season.

I expect the likes of Paddy McCharty, Jay Tabb, Alan O'Brien, Glenn Whelan, Colgan, Foran, Thornton, Lawrence etc to be involved rather than el players.

Hopefully Lee Trundle will get a chance to be in the squad at least.

Would like to see Rowlands from QPR get a chance aswell, maybe throw richie partridge in there too.

that said I'd rather have the likes of Gamble, O'Callaghan et al than thornton/foran/Colgan!

He He, you should tell that to Paul Doolin!

Fair point though, I hadn't looked at the dates. There's no reason why a player shouldn't be able to play both.

I coudn't see, say, Pat Fenlon being happy watching Jason Byrne going off to a meaningless B international 3 days before a potential title deciding day. Imagine the state of affairs if he came back injured?
