Hi, I'm looking for a good pair of football boots - I tried posting this in the football forum but it said I wasn't authorised or some bullsh*t. The problem is I have orthotic insoles and they don't fit well in a lot of boots. any feedback from footballers appreciated

well I can't say what boots will fit you insoles without seeing them but personally I go for a wider boot, Uhlsport or Umbro XAI for me. Nike are more show than functional when your playing weekend football and adidas are generally too skinny for a lot of people.

Go for Puma kings, they are a wide fitting boot with very good quality leather. Buy two pairs: Get both 6 studs and moulded studs and wear depending on the time of year/ condition of the ground.

Adidas world cup are also a decent boot but are a narrow fit. The Adidas copa mundial are not the same boot as the world cup, it is a wider fitting boot and is also a decent boot. I haven't ventured beyond these 4 boots for years and never intend to.

Cheers for the replies lads - I got Puma King mouldies recently Patto - while I was running it felt my heel was slipping out of the boot which was very dissappointing. The insoles are quite thick so I reckon I need a boot with a high back on them. My 6-stiud boots are falling to bits so I now need 2 pairs!

What may be good prman and I know I downed Nike in my previous post but going on what you have just said. Nike Zoom Air have the zoom air pad built into the insole and its removable. Now the insole in these are quite thick so the boot is made higher! If you get these and take the zoom air out then they should be a nice fit with your own insole.

If the boot is slipping off at the heel while being quite tight on the bridge of your foot then your insole is too big for the boot.

Im using the Mizuno Wave boots - i think they were around 130euro in the soccer shop on georges street -

i took the insoles out of them and put in the orthotics - and have had no problems with them, plenty of room to move around.

    Nice boots as well.

Know where to get any of these boots cheap?

In fairness, I've had Nike Air Zoom moulded for about 3 years and they're still in good working order, very happy with them. For screw in I've Adidas predator, they're about 2 years old and I'm also very happy with them.

I know a lot of people rave about the Puma Kings / Adidas World Cup - what's the big difference???

Basically the material used to make them. I have two pair of boots that I use, Umbro XAI and Uhlsport EXG. The Umbro is a screwin stud for winter play that was a pure impulse buy anad made out of Kangaroo leather. The same leather thats used in the Puma King and World Cup boots. Kangaroo leather is a very soft flexable leather that superbly molds onto your foot and gives you a very comfy fit. Its also extremely durable. Its not unknown to have a pair of these boots for about 5 years!!!

The Uhlsport (and most top nike) are a synthetic material that are a lot lighter and absorb a lot less water so they stay light. They also have interchangable soles so I can flip from soft to hard ground without changing boot. The downside with these is that they dont last as long as the real leather and are a lot more expensive.

Thats basically the difference with the boots you asked about and pretty much all top nike and adidas boots.

One thing you can do with Puma kings and Adidas copa mundials or world cup boots is buy them 1/2 a size too small. The leather will stretch after a couple of wears tightly to the shape of your feet. You can only do this because of the quality of the leather in these boots.

I've lost a few toe nails doing this but my size is between 11 and 11 1/2 and I was buying 10 1/2s. I have found that 11s are tight enough. (That is for puma kings, I'm the same size (11s) in copa mundials but in the world cup boot I need 11 1/2).

It was the guy in the soccer shop on Georges street who put me on to this idea. He sells at a fair price. I got my last pair on ebay, only saved about 20 quid though.

Alright Folks, went up to the Soccer shop on Georges street and got a pair of the Nike air zooms. I'm 130 quid lighter but all the good ones seem to be that price. They're kangaroo leather (sorry skippy) Good service in there though - yer man was saying all the LOI players go in there because they do half sizes, etc. He reckoned the Puma Kings must have been too big for me (plus u can't take the insoles out) - he says yer better off having yer feet jammed on as the leather will stretch... Good shop would recommend it.

The soccer shop is a good spot and yeah I used to go there all the time as well. Trust me though, as long as you take care of the boots the skippy leather will do you well. Just dont leave them in the bag for a few days full of muck after a match.
