Ganglion cyst

    Hi all,

I have a rather large ganglion cyst on my right wrist. I have had it for years, but since I had a baby it has gotten a lot larger, and it is sore all the time (I feel as though I have a constantly sprained wrist).

I went to my GP in June - gave me some ibuprofen gel to rub into the painful area, and some anti-inflammatories, but they haven't done anything.

Also - the two middle fingers on my right hand feel numb all the time and I cannot bend them as fully as the outer two. Now, the numbness and the restricted movement have only started occuring since that GP visit in June (the cyst has gotten bigger since then). When I look at the cyst, I can see a vein running across the top of it and I am mildly alarmed by this... if the cyst gets bigger is it going to interfere with this vein?

My GP said to come back to him and he would get a referral to Cappagh Orthapaedic Hospital to have it surgically removed, but he has already told me this will take months. Is there anything at all I can do to alleviate the pain of this or to stop the cyst from getting even bigger? Already, it is just slightly smaller than a ping pong ball :(

You need to get medical advice on management of this from your own doctor. Unfortunately it is not possible to make a diagnosis or recommendation for therapy over the internet.

The vein running over it is harmless as there are LOADS of other veins in your hands.
