Have YOU pre-ordered your Wii?

Just a dual purpose thread here; firstly seeing how many people have/will pre-order a Wii.

Secondly, I'm just wondering do you guys feel it's neccessary to pre-order one. I mean, is the demand going to be that high? And it seems like in a few places, a pre-order won't guarantee a Wii at launch, they're going to sell them on a first come basis.

I really couldn't say if the Wii will sell out on launch day, something inside me says that it wont and those diligent enough will find a few scattered around Dublin etc in the days after launch. I pre-ordered mine as soon as i could against the possibility that the interest would exceed available pre-order slots. I was wrong about slots being filled but putting some currency towards it felt good, like a foot in the door even if the door won't be closed come launch day. I won't be milling around Smyths at 12 o'clock on the 7th but i will push to be in first thing the next morning to secure it and then dash home like a child to plug it in and swing that controller around my head for a few hours before heading out that night (Friday) to compare experiences with the other people i know who will have one.

I can wait, but its an itch that won't be scratched until i play it.

well i was just in GAME in limerick and they had signs up for it and i thought why not

oh and nice choice of words Rhyme

    same as Rhyme
I'll be off work on the launch date*, so might grab it on Thursday night if Smyths Galway do a midnight opening (doubt it somehow...)
Preordering the system doesn't seem all that neccessary now, but I'm beginning to get a little worried about not preordering a specific game... (lets face it, pretty much everybody is going to want to get a copy of Zelda with theirs)

    *purely coincidental!:p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,837 ✭✭✭abelard

Yeah, pre-ordered a few weeks back in Smyth's. Will probaby head in on the morning of the 8th rather than try for midnight, so I'd better get one!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,639 ✭✭✭Laguna

Yeah I pre-ordered myself from Xtravision, I know a few of the staff in there so I'm pretty much guaranteed a Wii at launch. If I were you personally I would pre order, not that I'm saying there'll be a sell out at launch, but it's better to be safe than sorry!.

Smyths don't charge anything to put your name down for a game.

Doesn't feel all that secure as a result though. Just write your name and the name of a game on a piece of paper and that's good enough apparently.

I preordered both separately (my mistake) but I'd be more worried about Zelda selling out than the machine itself.

Preordered in Game, where I work :)
Gonna put my name down for Zelda this week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,176 ✭✭✭1huge1

well if i can't get zelda for wii ill just get the gc version though theres rumours going around that thats only availble online

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 120 ✭✭Attreu

Got the Lil Lady to prebook one for me for Christmas. It'll be long wait til the 25th but, should be fun on the Day.

Was speaking to the lads in Gamestop DL and they were saying that the games were coming out the week before.

€250 for the Wii, one control and nun-chuck attachment and a copy of Wii Sports.

€269.99 in HMV for that according to their signs in the drogheda store

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,386 ✭✭✭Attol

€260 is the most likely price as far as I'm aware.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,123 ✭✭✭✭Star Lord

€269 is most likely the universal HMV price, its on a sign in HMV in the Square too, and other retailers will likely follow suit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,386 ✭✭✭Attol

€260 is the price at Gamestop and the most widely advertised price online too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,881 ✭✭✭Kurtosis

GAME on Dawson street have lined their back wall and side wall with Wii notices between each of the rows of games and list the price as €250.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,475 ✭✭✭corblimey

You left off 1 option: won't be buying the Wii at launch, but will get it within a few months. Nothing on the launch window game list interests me at this moment, so I'm going to save my money for the impending Xmas glut of 360 games...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,622 ✭✭✭Catsmokinpot

why yes! yes i did :) unfortunately gamestop didnt have listings for any games, or i would have bought some too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,181 ✭✭✭✭Jim

I had planned to go in on Friday morning at opening time and purchase mine, but finances aren't looking as good atm as they were when I pre-ordered it.

Looks like no Wii for Jim after all.

Thats good! I thought it would be much more expensive hahaha :D

I didn't think demand would outstrip Nintendo's considerable supply, but every gamestop here blew through their pre-order quota within ten minutes of opening on Friday when they started taking pre-orders! meep. I doubt I can get one at launch but I hope I won't have to wait too long afterwards.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,357 ✭✭✭snappieT

I work in a shop that'll be getting them in. I am certain I'll get one. Hell, I may even get it before launch date!

    im curious about this wii.....

are you people actually picking the wii over an xbox360 and ps3 or are yee getting this as a second option?

will there be losts of games out? nintendo usually lack titles compared to sony and microsoft??

for some reason im interested and i don't know why!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,119 ✭✭✭✭event

Sort of. If I ever get a PS3 or 360, it won't be for a few years at least (i.e. major drop in price), but that wouldn't be any different if there were no Wii.

I don't need a €400 - €600 multimedia entertainment device, and I've got a PC to upgrade soon which will give me the bleeding-edge graphics. On the other hand, the Wii is a much more manageable price and has something really interesting going for it with that remote. Plus I love Nintendo games, and this is the only way to play them.

At this (early) stage it looks like they'll have more 3rd-party support for the Wii than they did for the 64/GC, but you never can tell how things will pan out. I think it will matter most whether or not people buy the machine. If enough people have a Wii, then you'll get more companies wanting to produce games for it.

Of course the obvious differences (in raw power and input devices) between this machine and the other two means that you'll be unlikely to find too many titles becoming available for all three consoles. If 'blockbuster' games and mind boggling graphics are your thing, then you'd probably still need to get yourself a second console (PS3 or XBox).
for some reason im interested and i don't know why!
It's a very interesting machine, imho.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 632 ✭✭✭Tank Top Fever!

I'm getting this as my second machine

I'll still be playing my 360 a hell of a lot when I get a wii

I just want a Wii for Zelda, Virtual Console, and the whole experience of actively "playing" the games

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 163 ✭✭Darnell13

Got mine pre ordered. Oh Yeah!

To be honest i want all 3. I'm greedy, you see. Shame i'm kinda broke, though.

In order of preference, though, i want Wii, 360 and then PS3.

    They all look pretty good!

    Oh Yeah!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 463 ✭✭greenkittie

My mummy has one preorderd for me, won't get it till christmas though, im happy cause currently too broke to get my own!

This is gonna be my primary console, i'll probably buy a ps3 in a few years when it will have a few decent games and a less ridiculous price.

Ive mine preordered in smyths in galway. Its our last day in college when it comes out (i love being a fresher again!), so ill be picking it up with a stink hangover, getting in my car and heading back to castlebar to play it.
I reckon its the machine that'll get me back into gaming!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 145 ✭✭cutepape

I think I will wait untill spring when the small glitches has been solved. Like the 360 had some small baby glitches from the start.
Ok.. so I am a little chicken about getting the v1.01a of stuff..

yeah but now i don't think i will be able to afford it!! disaster me thinks. Time to find a part time job for college again.

Just dispense with eating and things like that, you'll be glad when you've got your Wii....though you may lack the energy to swing the remote.

well for me a PS3 is way out of the question not only do i not care about blueray (come on hddvd is so gonna win) but for that price they must be out of their mind

i considered a x box 360 but at the moment its not exactly what im looking for same old same old ya know (though i might change my mind on that but i think one console is enough for me)

one of the main reasons im going for the Wii is the price (im sure im not the only one)
but it does actually looks very fun and the back catalogue is amazing
and finally ive got a gamecube and it would be handy just in case ya know

I'm sort of hoping they both fail. I personally don't see the need, and I don't think the average consumer does either.

Buy the films again? No thanks, I'll stick to the DVD's, I'm perfectly happy with the quality and value the fact that I can rip them to a hard drive at some point and keep them forever.

I'll probably buy one of the other consoles too, but i certainly wouldn't consider the Wii a "second console". if anything it would be my first console, but it's so cost efficient that I'll be able to buy a second console at some stage too (granted i obviously won't be buying a ps3 for full price on launch day).

I think the novelty and innovation should hopefully elevate the Wii beyond a "second console"

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,012 ✭✭✭✭thebman

Wii will be my first console this gen then 360 at some stage, maybe. I've not decided if I'll bother with another console to be honest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 120 ✭✭Attreu

This will be in addition to the 360 I have, although i have a feeling I'll be playing the Wii the most.

Will also be getting the PS3 when that comes out too.

    Goodshape wrote:

Exactly. I've alreadly been suckered into buying some of my favourites on dvd again. There's only so much picture sharpness can add to a film.

Incidentally, d'you know how many films I've watched on my ps2? One. Ever.
I don't appreciate being forced to pay for a blu ray player. If I got a PS3 it wouldn't be in the room where the family watches TV (what's the point in having a €600 entertainment system if f***ing Coronation Street is on?).

Wii looks like something new and interesting. I can't wait for it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,762 ✭✭✭smokingman

Pre-ordered two in Smyths on Jervis St. They had a good laugh when I went in and asked to pre-order one, then paused and said "actually can I have another Wii, I'm bursting!"

They must be getting a lot of that but we all laughed and I left with a pre-order for two, to go...:D

I don't think that there will be any need to preorder a wii because I think that there will be plenty to go round.

Besides, Mr.Clause will be getting my one so he can always make 1 if need be!:D

Have mine pre-ordered a while now. Only thing is i went into symths today and tried to pre-order legend of Zelda but the guy told me i couldn't because they haven't got a game list yet of what's coming out. Has anyone else got this problem?

Strange I had no problems with preordering it there and so did many others.

As for Mariokart Wii I'd say you can be pretty sure to see something about it at next years E3. I hope they include the levels from the mario kart arcade games.

i was looking at some youtube videos of the wii, looks pretty good,

how fit do you reckon you have to be to play one of these? :D
some of them shots (though obviously hyperbole) seemed pretty active, like in the fighting games....

i like to sit down and play games and maybe have a few drinks...
i hope i will be able for it!!

I'm getting a Wii at or shortly after launch because I've seen lots of exclusive games for it that I really want to play.

    I don't have a 360 yet because I haven't seen a single exclusive game for it that I give a rat's ass about.

I don't plan to get a PS3 anywhere near launch. Just looking at the names (sorry if my assumption is wrong, here) of the launch titles, it looks like you could count on one hand the games I won't be able to play on my PC, and none of the launch titles interest me anyway.

Once Metal Gear Solid 4 comes out, though, I probably won't be able to resist any longer :)

Most of that is totally over the top to over-emphasise that it uses movement to control it lol

If you read some of the hands on reports on IGN, you will see that you can do those big dramatic gestures if you want, but a flick of the wrist usually has the exact same effect!
