It's been a few years but Vinny Byrne's was the place to go to get paint,
I last called in with a petrol flap and got a perfect match, no problems ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 173 ✭✭corelon

i brought the car and they were looking to take something off it like a petrol cap or something but they finally brought swatches out and did it that way..SO cross fingers it will do the job...

your a biut stuffed then, in all likelyhood you wonr be able to match exAcgtly you paint as its pretty much impossible to match what 25 years of weather has doen to the rest of you car

if VBs cant do it I doubt anyone can.

btw you really ned to sort this before jan1 when cellulose goes off the market

Whats all this about, should we be concerned about this?

Yeah if Vinnie's cant match it nobody can !!

Is there not any part you can take off that is painted and give to them ? What about the bodycoloured door mirror?

Dont forget most paint shops can vary the shading themselves to match exactly !

Well ive been back to them again this morning and it turns out that the problem is that wahtever they used to mix the paint is a bad batch they reckon!!! It is mettalic paint so whatever it is they use to mix it... ANyway have to go back tomorrow and they will have it done up again.....

yes we should all be very worried about it. Celulose will be illegal to sell as of Jan 1, thinners and undercoat you can still get but not colour. So buy now if you need it, although I have no idea on shelf life.

its an eu directive. You will only really have Water based paints to go with from then, but WB paint needs heat and ventilation to cure, not something you can do in your lockup/garage/shed/driveway so we are rightly stuffed for cheap paint repairs.

Does that mean that if I want to get the car painted that it will be more expensive next year :( to get a pro job, or do most pro places use WB paints anyway?

    About Jan1st!!!
Was talking to Vinny Byrnes this morning and they confirmed one thing that they will not be able to sell Celulose paint in tins but they did say they would still be able to sell by spay can.Which they can make up any colour for...So not the end of the world!!!

yeah, but try painting a large car with spray cans... not so great.

most "paint shops" now use WB paint anyway, but they charge for it and as we know they do not like taking on classic projects.

its gonna be a whole new world

I always use www.PAINTSCRATCH.com - Although certain European Cars, not imported into the U.S. may present a problem. They are great for OEM colour matching.
