Tip for Thursday (sort of!)

Pighead apologises in advance for the vagueness and the quality of my source but I thought I'd throw it up anyway.

Was in the pub the other night and I was sitting next to these 3 lads who were speaking in muffled tones and writing stuff down on paper.Anyway heard one of the older lads saying:

"Yeah we're bringing 4 horses over to Ludlow, Kileto and Pennywise are our best chances, the other two are just out for the run. Kileto will probably go off as favourite but I'll be very surprised if he doesn't win, Pennywise could be favourite too but I'm not quite as confident with him. They're both running Thursday at Ludlow."

Now bear in mind there was muffled tones and drink involved so Kileto could have been called stiletto or filetto or something along those lines. I've tried to look up the names on the Racing Post but can't find a trainer with the two horses mentioned above.

Anyway maybe you lads could shed some light on who owns them or even what they're called! Yes this is quite possibly the shoddiest tip ever given on this forum so forgive me please.

pennyhill thyne is the only horse running in ludlow that day with penny in its name

That must be it so. Who trains it? Has he got any other horses that sound like Kileto or something like it?

This very modest event concerned just the two from a long way out. BALLITO, previously trained by his owner George Stanley, has joined John Carr since falling on his recent chase debut. Moving into second place at the start of the long turn out of the back straight, he steadily reeled in the leader and the race was over once he struck the front at the second-last. He has been running over shorter and the return to this longer trip helped.

Ah excellent detective work knighted_1. Cheers for that. Ballito it is then. Hopefully the fact that he won last year won't shorten his price. too much.

So to tidy up my original post it seems Ballito and Pennywise Thyne=Great Chances, Quizzical, Lease and Dingle Fun Guy out for the run(One of these probably a non-runner as I'm almost sure I heard him say 4 horses)

Hi long time reader 1st time poster

Ballito is in the 2:20 Ok early price 6/1:)

Pennyhill doesn't seem to be running, can anyone confirm

    Cheers

Carr only has Ballito and Lease at Ludlow, I'd be very surprised if Ballito is anywhere near 6/1, most probably will be 5/2 or 3/1.

looking at the form i see richard johnson has rode both these horse on there previous starts rode lease into third and ballito was pulled up but second before that -he rides lease tomorrow i wonder did he have a choice as he has ridden both before plus balito is a stone more than when he won this last year -might explain why he putting 3 pound claimer on -

prize money £2700 to the winner id assume they will be backing one hard as it would cost close to this to bring two horses over there

can pighead go back to that pub and evesdrop again tonite lol

think i might dutch the two for the interest

anyone got a price on balito?.thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,184 ✭✭✭✭Pighead

Yeah bit strange that Johnsons on Lease. Also no sign of Pennywise Thyne. Current price of Balito is 7.2 on betfair(about 6/1). Hes 4th favourite behind Lease(6.2) Arabian Moon(6.2) and clear favourite Shared Account(3.05).

Gonna have a decent Each Way bet on Balito. Worst case scenario, it will teach me a lesson never to listen to horse talk in pubs.

Ballito is 8/1 with PaddyPower and 16/1 with Betfair at the moment (place 3/1)

I have a few pints waiting for you pighead if your ever in my area, legend m8, was gonna take SP at 1:30 but took 8's on PaddyPower, still mustn't grumble £30 on the nose. Happy Days:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,430 ✭✭✭Sizzler

    TOTR!

I took 20's on betfair around lunchtime and also had a few quid with Padraig each way.

Easy to say now but it was a top class stroke, all the money went for Johnson's mount (who hated the ground....read the form people ;) ) and our mate drifted like a raft without a paddle on the atlantic, nice :D

You'd wonder how many people it takes to influence the market.

In a seller at Ludlow it wouldn't take a whole lot.

Which is the point I was making. Alot of us were on it.
I gave this horse to 8 of my friends who in turn gave it to their friends and so on. There were ALOT of people in Shannon on this horse and it drifted from 8s out to 14s. The Jock also says alot of his mates were on it as well. Which is why I was wondering how much money would have been required to be placed on it to make its price come in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,757 ✭✭✭masterK

I would imagine very little money was placed on course hence the drift, it was probably spread around the betting shops, likely to have been small enough amounts each time which wouldn't show up as a blip on the price radar.

I also suspect that the amounts claimed by some people are slightly exaggerated.

    I'm glad someone said it.

I'd be surprised if anyone apart from the usual forum users were actually on it in truth.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,752 ✭✭✭wb

If everyone placed money on a horse early, it could cause a price cut, but don't forget that once the market opens on-track, thats where the prices are generated from and not the shops/internet. The sp's are not an overall picture of how much is on it, they are taken from what is happening at the track (Although most on-course layers have laptops, and are keeping an eye on the outside market these days)

I don't really think it's the case any more, prices are probably driven more by off course events than on course events. I remember listening to a bookmaker on At The Races a while back saying that his prices are basically driven by what's happening on the exchanges.

Having seeing this site for the first time last Monday, this over heard tip caught my interest as it did the rest of you. I fully intended in having a substantial bet on this horse until I seen the price and the fact that it was going out in price. I had a smaller bet then intended but still won 500 euro. This was a fluke, this horse, this win and we were all dead lucky.
There are few if any trainers/owners out there who would not back their horse if they had the same information and belief we had. And trust me they didn’t back it.
As said previously it doesn’t take much to lower a price in such a race, a bet of over 300 euro in any shop at these odds leads to a phone call before they take your bet. And prices are driven by the off course shops in the lead up to races especially in smaller meeting like this one.
There was only shillings on this horse every one posted so far are talking about 30, 20 and 15 euro bets, these would scare no bookies. If the owner/trainer had backed it they would of been on heavy. You can’t come away from Ludlow and claim to have pulling off a sting on a horse that drifted from 8s to 14s
Of course we will never know
