SPOILERS BELOW, only read if you have seen the film..............

What the f**k was he thinking in the last 20 minutes?

Di Caprio runs from the police station while Matt Damon is getting his identity back etc. Why didn't they finish there?

Cue an over the top set of scenes at Wash 344. Di Caprio comes down the lift. Shot in the head. A giggle from the audience. The shooter, another cop explains his reasoning to a shocked matt damon. Cue 2 more headshots. More than a few laughs from the audience in the cinema. One woman exclaims how over the top it all was. Damon steps around the bodies and walks away.

The film had earned some excellent credability with a pacey plot a enough twists etc only to finish in an over tthe top mess that had people in the audience actually laughing at the riduculous-ness of the ending.

oh, and of course, Wahlberg finishes it all off.

    Everything was going so well.

Discuss, because maybe there was a point to all this, other than a desperate need to end the story in any way possible.

oh but thanks for introducing to me to that song: Dropkick Murphy's I'm Shipping up to Boston!

For you to say that I conclude you actually approached every one of these people after the movie was finished and asked them face-to-face why exactly they were laughing or what they found so funny?

Laughter is often a knee-jerk response to seeing something that is startling or unexpected.

It's what happened in Infernal Affairs (bar
Matt Damon dying, because Andy Lau doesn't get shot in IA
) as this is a remake that's why it happened.

When I went to see it nobody laughed at it they all jumped, which was funny because I knew it was coming and to see everyone around you jump was amusing.

Yea it was a stupid ending. That scene outside the elevator was nothing short of farcical. Fair enough if that's what happened in the original, even though they could've changed it (they changed plenty already), but Damon getting shot at the end was really really crap. What was the point? We'd already seen 3 headshots, one to a main character, what was one more going to achieve?

There was scope for a much more elegant ending where he could've been busted by the evidence in the envelope DiCaprio gave to the girl, or something remotely clever so we could leave satisfied. Instead of that it just looked like "Ok this thing's coming to a climax now how are we gonna wrap it up? Lets just kill everyone." That may be shocking (barely in this case), but it seemed more like a cop out.

The film was great otherwise so the ending didn't ruin it for me, it was just disappointing.

I lol'd at the elevator scene... I think I was the only one though :p
4 headshots was a bit much! Was there some other film released recently that had a load of headshots in it? Kiss Kiss Bang Bang maybe? can't remember...

Because he only remade the film of Infernal Affairs.

Besides Hollywood can't come up with anything of there own anymore. Fair play to the Chinese for trying and succeeding with there creativity. If it weren't for them, the movie business would have gone to ****.

Um, would it? I don't remember watching a Chinese movie, yet I've seen some great films in the past.

Thanks for the heads up though, lucky the Chinese are making such great films.

We in the west are privelaged to get the best of Asian cinema exported to us. If we had the same creative filter switched on for Hollywood you would have the same high hit to miss ratio. The amount of utter filth produced in Asia is astonishing. The quality of a film isn't decided on its country of origin or whether it's a remake.

I enjoyed the end immensely, although I could have done without the Mark Wahlberg bit at the end.

The only thing that really annoyed me about the ending was the rat on the balcony. Wasn't needed.

My bad. I wasn't sure how loose the re-make was. OK, my criticism is directed towards the film itself then. In fairness the presentation was top-notch.

I agree, but no, this was more of amusement at the story getting a little bit stupid.

Such a pity, i was really thinking it was one of the best i'd seen all year before it got to that point.

I still think the review scores are over-rated.
