Pokertracker DB Question

I use pokertracker somewhat, but I am not an expert in its use by any means. Currently my machine is experienceing 'difficulties' which I am baffled by, but that is besides the point.

One of the many effects of the above difficulites is that I cannot open up my Pokertracker database. What I want to know is what is the file you would use if you were to copy your PTdb onto another installation? I know you can have multiple databases, but I would just like to know what files are needed to get it successfully opened somewhere else. What I really want to do is delete the installation (but I can't due to my problem) and reopen my old db on the new installation.

Also, if any of the geeks here have ever heard of instances of directories within drives getting write protected for no apparant reason (still have full permissions etc etc, admin user) pm me.

    Cheers.

If you're still using Access MDB files as opposed to postgres then I think you only need two files from the directory Poker Tracker is installed into...

    ptrack.mbd and hhdb.mdb

Just in case though copy all of the .mdb files and you should be fine.

If you've converted to postgres then you can get rid of poker tracker without getting rid of postgres and reinstal poker tracker later and the postgres databases will still be there, otherwise just take a backup of the postgres databases.

EDIT: I've never had more than one Access-Poker Tracker database so I don't know what extra files get created if you do that.

My own poker tracker files are:

    ptrack.mdb (microsoft access DB)
    hhdb.mdb (microsoft access DB)

    In the \Program Files\Poker Tracker V2 folder

    edit: oops already posted

The write protect errors you are getting may just be crappy microsoft error reporting --> error from system trying to write a file and microsoft's default error in this situation is 'write protect error'. I've seen this before.

It could signal a general problem with your disk which could be on the way out. Backup if you haven't already and do some disk maintainance. (dskchk etc..)

Cheers lads. Ya, I am hoping it is not a disk error, more for the inconvenience than anything, but I will do a full scandisk and checkdisk and all that crap later. I will make sure to copy all those .mdb files first though before I do anything drastic.

use something like this bad boy to see if your disk is banjoed

    http://www.passmark.com/products/diskcheckup.htm

it'll check the S.M.A.R.T and Bios health

My PT directory is at an annoying 1.5gigs, does the prestige DB make it any smaller?

You should definitely look into converting your DB's to postgres. It can be a little tricky to do but I found that filtering stats and generally poking about your hand histories went alot faster once the database size got > 40k hands. I still don't exactly know what the conversion does in terms of the tech size.
