    Happy Friday 13th everybody.
Just wondering, does this particular date have any relevance to the world of the paranormal, or is it more of a religious thing? I know many people have a fear of this date (my brother included who will spend today hiding under his bed:) ) but I've never heard much evidence as to why. I did hear about the 13 people at the last supper combined with the crucifixion being on a Friday and other religious reasons, but are there any others reasons such as wiccan or spiritual or even other worldly as to why this day may harbour bad tidings?
Is 13 even an unlucky number or is that all just superstition?

I heard a guy on the radio this morning who said that apparently 13 is the symbolic number that separates man from the devil......12 being human number and 14 being the devil number.......interesting.

Has anyone ever seen the film Pi (actually the symbol is the name of the film but I can't find it on my keyboard)...very good film about the mathematical language of the universe and religion.... definitely recommend it!

Remember years and years and years ago my hubby lost his job on friday 13th but I also remember him getting a new job on Friday 13th. Superstition is the key word for this date I think for many people.

To do with 13 at the last supper and the demise of the knights templer.

I'm always a wee bit wary since my dad broke his ankle when a tree fell on him and then my mam put her back out (and could hardly walk at all) on a friday 13th. I was about 7 or 8 at the time. The neigbours had to look after us for about a week!

There is also the theory that you create your own fate/fortune good or bad when concentrating and visualising what you hope to gain or fear to receive.
ie if you spend a whole day waiting and forseeing an accident, it can happen, as the fact that you can manifest positive things in your life!

What did they call it in the above link? Nocebo effect or something.

In France Friday the 13th is seen as a lucky day - everyone goes out and buys loads of lotto tickets and scratch cards. You see them all in the cafes having a great old scratch altogether....

Now this is a great word for explaining the fear of Friday 13th

    paraskavedekatriaphobia

I thought (excuse my ignorance) that it was more to do with the last supper than knight's templar - I stand corrected.

I'm amazed to hear it worries people so much though, that's just odd imho

Aisling that's interesting what you heard on the radio have never heard that before but one thing I did hear about the devils number is that everyone thinks its is 666 - well, in arameic (sp?) numbers corresponded to letters so six actually corresponded to the letter w - so www.
Many theories have come through this such as that world war 6 will mean the end of the world and that the internet is in some way satanic - very complex issue. But to get back to the topic - don't know much about friday 13th but have never experienced any particular bad luck then that I can think of - it could be nothing, but I really don't know.

And seeing since the Euromillions jackpot is about €80 million I can see loads of tickets being bought today.
