Treatment for dampness

Just wondering has anyone ever got Protim out to inject a solution into walls to stop rising damp? Whats involved,is it messy? Does it actually work? Costly? Got a house surveyed recently and surveyor noticed 50% dampness in some of the walls(mainly boundary)...
