A Wii worry...

Has there been any mention that the Wii will support scart? There hasn't been any scart cable accessories mentioned. I hope to god it supports scart and there isn't another N64 debacle when they removed the scart function from it but not s-video forgetting europe again Nintendo  ). I'm worried because if I can only use a god awful A/V cable the graphics are going to look absolutely disgraceful compared to the Gamecube (or even Dreamcast with a scart cable).

More than likely they will, at the very least have the 3 (yellow, red & white) cable jobbies. Those can be slotted into a scart adapter.

Actually Id imagine they will do the same as the 360 and have those cables with the extra blue/green ones added on for optional component connection. Makes sense to offer everyone the SD/HD option.

Thats exactly what I DON'T want. The A/V cable with the 3 wires gives awful picture quality.

You mean you want a straight scart cable? All the last generation used the 3 cables as standard, and come to think of it I dunno whether Ive ever seen that for any console.

Ive never noticed the 3 cables into a scart adapter being particularly bad. I did definitely notice a difference when I moved to component though. What are you comparing it to?

Any chance they'll bring out a VGA input?

I've gotten quite used to nice sharp visuals on my monitor, don't want to go back to scart

They all came with the 3 cable AV cable but the scart cables were sold seperately. I bought PS2, GC and Xbox scart cables and the visual quality is so much better that it's like playing on another generation of console. There's a massive difference between Scart and the 3 cable AV connectors. If you have a scart cable for the PS2 if you flick the switch on it from game to DVD you will see the step up in quality that scart provides (fat Ps2 displays DVDs in AV only but you get a green screen, games can be displayed in scart).

I remember when I got the cables first and spent the whole day playing the nicest looking games to see how much better it looked.

Component gives the same graphical quality as scart in SD but can display in HD as well.

I never knew that. Were you getting them from shops or online out of interest?

I did notice a nice step up from the standard av cable to component on the original xbox, but I put that down to component displaying the games using progressive scan rather than anything else. (I mean 480p, rather than 720p or anything above the norm)

I just got the Game branded cables. They are surprisingly very good quality.

Well, if youv'e been playing ps2/xbox/gc with composite connectors you should be ashamed!

Heh, when I recently got a new TV and component cables for my PS2 and Gamecube, I tried out some games on the PS2, and it all looked like PS1! Argh! All it does is make the blockiness, low detail polygons and low detail textures really crystal clear :)

But Metroid Prime in progressive scan... nyom.

It's unfortunate that the proprietary nintendo component (YPbPr) cable is out of print, though :( I had to pay more than the price of a gamecube to get it from lik-sang :(
