tried mplayer did like the fact that it opened up a separate yoke for the video so that video and playlist were in different windows. maybe I could change that but I didn't look to, to be honest, I'll try that other one now. Thanks!

I switched from MPlayer to VLC.

What is VLC doing to annoy you?

vlc really is the best. You won't find anything else with the same features/compatibility for the mac. If it keeps crashing try trashing your prefs or updating.

It works perfectly on my ibook g4. It might just be a problem with certain files.

well it doesn't crash everytime I play the same file...like it would crash the first time and then it would work...that's what's annoying

Tbh, VLC is your best option. Other apps will be more annoying and buggier. Stick with it I would say.

as the guy put a link in above, perian is amazing and intergrates with quicktime...definitely my first choice and it's universal binary
it's fast too and adds flv playback which is cool for those who download you tube vids and also adds xvid and others...they have a link for the democracy player on the site too which allows you to download from youtube and google vodeo..
Democracy Player - also universal binary
