Played it there, have to say I'm impressed. I like the way the tactical map looks, and how you elect a pope etc etc.

yeh it seems pretty much the same formula, nothing to drastic gameply changes wise but it sure does look purty.

Not bowled over - the speed of the infantry/cavalry is laughable. Id love to see the men that can run full pelt up a hill in armour, setting 100 meter records and not die of a heart attack.

How does it play hardware-wise? I assume it may require a fairly decent graphics card?

i'm running it on my sig specs and its fine...there's a fairly substantial set of graphics options in the demo tho so i'm guessing the likes of a 9800 pro upwards will run it fine.
but one sure fire way to find out man:)

surely they just become winded like they did in rome:total war no?

yeh i have to admit, the differences are pretty much visual between the demo and rome:total war, i guess why fix something that wasn't too broke, i can wait for the full game anyways ,enjoying company of heroes too much:)

Oh Im sure they do, but I wonder how severely? But just for laughs, play the Battle of Hastings demo and watch in awe as the Norman footmen race up a steep hill and lay into the saxon shield wall. Ridiculous speed. Who needs cavalry?

Only the two demo battles to examine - scripted to hell and no doubt weighted toward the player in terms of chevrons - but if anything they seemed to have upped the speed and the old 15 seconds combat, messy loss of formation, insta rout, battle over dress messing that plagued Rome vanilla seems to be present and correct.

/shrug - its pretty enough yeah, but thats the only advance it seems. No doubt the AI will still helpfully knacker its army out by constantly running back and forth 20 or 30 meters while you advance on them.

Hopefully they learned from the terrible path finding in Rome while playing campaign and made things a bit more challenging.

    bought the full game yesterday

had a quick play of it last night

I think the battles are more challenging and the use of the agents in the campaign will be far more important.
