magnet decoder box

    hi im renting a house in dublin which is fitted out with magnet cable,phone and broadband we have an amino aminet110 mpeg2 decoder box which came from magnet i want to set up cable in my bedroom i was wondering if i purchased a similar box would it work since the subscription and sockets are enabled,if so could any recommend a box

    You will need to contact Magnet to make sure it's not a breach of their terms and conditions.

    No other box will work as their user interface will only work on selected units. If the content is not encrypted, you can play back network streams on your PC using VideoLAN http://www.videolan.org.

    The bandwidth can only manage one channel at time anyway. Get a Wireless video sender.

    They are upgrading to MPEG4 to reduce the bandwidth eaten, not for any increase of quality or HD.

    It isn't cable TV at all but IPTV.

    Is the service coming in over a phone line or over fibre?

    If it is over fibre, then you can rent a second box from Magnet for the second room.

    what BK ^^^^^^^ says above is true. There are not many fibre direct to apartment though.

    I don't think it is possible.

    Magnet uses a specialist IPTV setbox. While VideoLan can probabily view the video it can't change channel. YOu would have same channel as on your setbox at poorer quality if it worked at all.
