Using a diseq Switch in co-junction with a diseq motor

    Hi guys,
Possible silly question, is it possible to the following.
using a 4-1 diseq switch, have 3 connections to a fixed dish setup (astra1, astra2 and hotbird) and use the 4th connection connected to a dish on a motor.
Idea being, that I spend most time looking at those 3 sat's at moment, and it'd be fastest switching time between channels, where as I wouldn't be using the motorized dish except when I’d be looking for feeds.
Couple of reasons why I'd like to do it like this,
I've used all the available conduit space in my sitting, and landlord won't allow me to drill any holes, so I cant run a separate cable for motorized dish.
plus, area where the dish tends to be get very windy, so I want to be able to park the dish, and secure it to reduce wind load, and still be able to look at TV.

    Technically it can actually work.
Not all receivers will support it.

    I have
    Astra2/Eurobird 28E = LNB1
    Astra 19E = LNB2
    hotbirds 13E = LNB3
    and 23.5 = LNB4

I have also GotoX (USALS) set up on Motor for 28 satellites. All the rest are LNB1

When I have the receiver box on Diseqc switch those four 1st listed sats work.

When I have it on the motor they all work.

I havn't tried both at same time. Set Diseqc Repeat = 2 or 3 if you have it.

It may work depending on your setup. Put Dish satellites as LNB4 and see does it work.

If not try dish motor as LNB1 as LNB1 is default if no switch command is sent.

Really this very much depends on your Sat reciever.

    Thanks Watty.
At the moment, I have a lowly Comag, but Once I know this setup will work, I'll be investing in a more modern receiver (one without a dodgy psu).

I do have a cable used for my FTA digibox, that I could sacrifice, but I'd lose Ch4 and 5.

That sounds like a cool setup.
I'm find myself wondering should there be a sticky thread/FAQ entry on "deployment" options for installations etc..

    Some examples would be:
Basic: Single fixed dish with single LNB (single sat)
Next Step up: Dual, quad LNBs (single sat, multiple tuners)
Next Step up: Multiple Single LNB's on a single dish
    (multipl sat)
Next Step up: Multiple Dual, quad lnb's on a single dish (multipe sat, multiple tuners)
Next Step up: Motorised dish, single lnbs... (multiple sat, single tuner)
    etc. etc.
    I'm sure there's many more.

Could mention painting the dish etc. (beleive it or not - paining my 95cm dish was a big factor in the missus allowing me hang it out of the house!). I've seen the odd thread about it here, it's often one of the first things peebs want to find out.

Could bung in a link to instructions on the different setups (like link to Wattys site below)

I'm only newish to satellites myself but find the subject quite interesting. My interest was initially just 'how to I get BBC free' but reading here got me hooked and I ended up going for multiple lnbs, single dish type deployment (as per wattys instructions don't ya know... (http://homepage.eircom.net/~watty/satellite/satellite.htm))

Interest continues to grow and I've found myself idly wondering how I could introduce a motorised dish into my setup without disturbing the existing dish (why this thread caught my eye).

Dunno if u think it would be worth while Watty? I only suggest it as one of the hardest decisions when starting a new hobby is "which gear do I buy - so I won't have to throw it out if I get more interested". If there was a more complete list of deployment options than I've listed (bet my socks there is!) future users may be able to use it as a sort of roadmap... (OK - I can buy this kit, but then later I can supplement it with xxx rather than chucking stuff out).

I've never thown anything out. I still have even my old analogue Amstrad with PSU and Videocrypt removed. Works off 12V DC and can pick up 1.2 GHz Amateur TV direct.
