NTL fupped

    Hey all,
    Since we got NTL digital 2 weeks ago, there have been a number of problems

    1) Program guide completely wrong
    2) Program guide in main menu takes forever to load up
    3) Pictures pixelates alot.

    Now, as of yesterday, most of our channels are gone. RTE 1, TV 3, BBC, SKY etc. are all locked out with the 'you haven't subscribed' to these channels message coming up (RTE 2, Channel 6, E4 are all still present and accounted for). It then started to flash an error message saying there was no card in the box. The analogue channels are all fine. Resetting, rebooting, plugging out etc. doesn't work. Pulling the card in and out doesn't work.

    I waited on hold for ages yesterday and gave up. I called again today and in all fairness I got through pretty quickly and got a callback from a 'tech support' team member.

    'Tech support'. My god, she was totally clueless. I explained the situation, the fact that some channels are still there, with normal image quality, the card messages... and she sounded completely lost.

    All she could say was that the signal mustn't be strong enough and they'll have to book an engineers visit.

    I hope this isn't a sign of things to come.

    I have NTL digital and it's not without it's problems. Every so often we loose channels, they're just blank... I rang up (same dreadful waiting time) and same rubbish technical support.

    Basically I just press the help button on the bottom of the remote and in the help menu, press RESTART. This seems to clear up lots of problems?!

    I do also get badly pixilated images from time to time.
    Initially when I was having these problems, the women on the phone (probably the same one and the only one they have!), said she would "boost" the signal to my set... I'm not very technically minded, but this sounds like a really bad excuse to get out of solving the problem.

    Interestingly, friends of ours have the same cheapo digital package from NTL but get a handful of better channels as well as the ones we get. The lucky {word removed}!

    This is why UPC is replacing lots of cable.
    (NTL is gone)
