Thinking Inside 'The Box'

Oh My God! Oh God! Please God no! TV3 have followed up such quality programming as TV 'A goat was born in Dublin Zoo today' 3 NEWS and EIRCOM 'Trevor buckethead talks about English soccer rejects' LEAGUE SOCCER with what is undoubtedly the most incredibly lame television productions this country has ever seen (not including Killnaskully or anything with Twink). 'The Box' started tonight. It started but it never really got going I am afraid.

Here is how it goes...two people battle it our for money (enough to buy TV3) each night. One is eliminated. The winner is joined by another contestant and so on and so on for 20 nights. That's it. That is it. The TV3 ads frightened the bejaysus out of ould ones in recent weeks with ads stating 'The Box .....Coming soon'. Now, all we need is REPAK to come along and do what they do with every other box.

As for the contestants...well one thinks that Chris Eubank invented the lean mean grilling machine and other has never heard of a cuckoo clock. The latter birdbrain won tonight's quiz. As for the parrot presenting the show...well he was just Keith from Boyzone. He never sang in Boyzone because he couldn't remember the words. Not much change so tonight as he feverishly flicked his mixed up cue cards faster than the other Keith (Barry). Just when he thought his career was over when he left Coronation Street (what happened to him?) he pulls this gem out of his hat...or was it his arse.

One good thing about The Box is that TV3 have used it as a work experience tool for blind, deaf and dump inner city kids. They have worked wonders with the original programme concept of 'The Circle' (TV3 could only afford a box).

Haha, yes to the contestants, haha... the one who won is a tool, hot though but the guy was sound though.
Also gotta agree with you on Keith Duffy although his actual personality does shine through, he could be the next graham nortan if he could just remember what comes next. AND LOOK IN THE GENERAL DIRECTION OF THE CAMERA.
    Production, poor.

Although set design was superb, lighting.. cameras etc (compaired to just watching '30 things to do with your SSIA's on RTE') .

I think it is a really good idea though.. box could be smaller! Its great that you dont really get to know them, seeing as they are gone by the end of the day.. which in some ways makes all the expense of 24 hour reality tv pointless, but its a watchable show.

I think it's a bit much to knock the concept, it seems simple but is effective. As Limman said you don't get to know the contestants so it is still a quiz show. I was pretty impressed by the set up, Keith was a lot better than I thought he would be and I think given time the grow it could be pretty cool "event TV" by the end of the run.

effectively awful. Watched, or attempted to watch, the first 20 minutes while biding my time for something else. I only kept flicking back because it has that cringingly embarrassing feel to it that you just have to go back to to see if it gets any worse. "Burgers all da way "

Anyone who calls the Box and interesting concept obviously does not have digital or cable subscription. It's all been done cross channel before and, may I add, done much better.

It is actually an English company producing this show for TV3.

I was just watch one round of the show, where the contestants had to go againist each other and the clock. What did they do? They told us how the felt about the category and then they told how the felt about the question and then they answered the question, its a round againist the clock

However its not as bad as the BBC's Egghead's show.

As for the reality, where is the reality?

I saw the same bit. WTF like? They spent more time trying to be witty than answering the questions.. which is the aim of the game... answer questions... get points. The mind boggles

I was foolish to think this was going to be anything other than absolute shi*e. I saw a bit of it Friday night and thought, ok I obviously missed something. Watching it tonight and turns out no I did not miss anything, it is actually as bad as it seems.

    Huzzah for TV3!

This show is such a load of sh*t. IT'S JUST A QUIZ SHOW - so why do they have to live in a box for a day?
    Typical Irish bollox.

At its best its unintentionally funny.
Its ****ing awful. absolute dross. Dismal, abysmal, brain melting ****e. Worse than Jade's PA. It is painfully bad moron fodder.
Hurts my head even thinking about it.

    Who? TV3?

While TV3 is owned by an English company I was actually talking about the producers of the show http://www.liontv.co.uk/index.html
