Hey long time lurker first time poster in this forum. Lookin at travellin to Dub everyday and dont think i could face the traffic and was lookin at gettin a bike.

Now want to do this right i.e. get my lessons and get my test first but have always been into bikes as my dad has always had one. Anyhow there seems to be great bargains to be got on ebay.

Anybody ever bought off it? Any major difficulties?

I bought mine on ebay and it has been a great bike. In retrospect I think I'd have rather seen the bike prior to purchase. It can be a bit of a gamble. I bought a truck that way too. I don't think I'll do it again unless I can "kick the tires" in advance.

Read an article in one of the british bike mags which concluded that there were better deals to be had by going through the classifieds, though they probably have a vested interest in saying that :)

Would be slow to buy anything as expensive as a bike unseen.

I bought a bike turns out that the gearbox 2T had no oil in it and the clutch plates had rusted when I rode it for the first time the rust did baaaad things to the fibre plates and basically wore them down.
I freaked out and pulled the clutch down flushed the gearbox with kero and a few oil changes, and fitted new fibre plates, I just lapped the old steel plates on a sheet of glass with sandpaper on top.
Since then it has been top notch, of course I didn't get any satisfaction from the seller.

Bought 2, from different ends of the UK, at the same time. Got the same co to collect them, and he delivered to Dublin. No probs.

In hindsight I should have made him drive to Galway, as he had the whole day to kill waiting for the return ferry! He had a load of 5 bikes on that day too, some going to Kilkenny, so it seems eBay has spawned a whole new bike-transport industry with machines bouncing their way from one end of europe to the other !

sorry for the delay, guys. I need to look up who I used......iirc, it cost me about Eur250 per bike.......... I did work out the cost of getting a van and going over, ferries, time off work, etc, but it was still cheaper to get a co to do it.

I live in Tallaght Dublin 24 and i bought two bikes off ebay in the uk and drove them back and stuck them on the ferry. It is very simple if you know what you are doing. I kept one and sold the other one on. I did everything above board and if anyone wants to know, leave a message on this board.

    Claire
Here's who I used - I couldn't fault them, really. And seeing as one bike was in the Yorkshire, and the other in Wilts, so collecting them myself was a no-no, and that's without allow for the cost.
Ask for Claire - and tell them I referred you!

Another compnay, who were keen on price, but there was a time problem, were these guys, and they seemed affable enough.
