Can't play Home video in MCE

I was able to play my home videos (mpeg from digicam) previously but I just get an error that MCE cannot play them any longer. Strangely enough WMP is able to play them. I'm using the Nvidia mpeg Decoder.

Perhaps it is possible to convert the Original mpegto a flavour that MCE can tolerate. Anyone know of such a conversion?

Usually this would just be a codec problem... What (if any) error message are you getting? What have you changed in your environment that these no longer work? Are you using a trial version of the nVidia decoder that may have expired?

There are tools to convert from MPEG to AVI, but that's not really solving your problem.. Easier and quicker to get mpegs playing in Media Centre..

Dont know the cause, video codec uninstalled maybe ?

Easiest way to fix it is to install FFDShow which is a decoder that support many formats.

During the install, untick the box for MPEG-2 to leave the NVIDIA DVD decoder in place. Also untick post processing and volume normalization as well, the audio formats can be left as is alone with the rest of the video formats unless you have a decoder in mind that you want to use instead of FFDShow.

Thanks - i'll try this. I had already installe dffdshow and I think i've been unable to watch the videos since then, but I didn't select the options as mentioned. I've still got the nvidia decoder on trial but it is still within the trial period.

I don't know if it is a codec problem as they play fine in Windows Media Player.

what format are they in. Run them through Gspot to see what codec's its using.
