Seems they went slightly over time with episode 3. To the degree that they could make 2 episodes out of it :D So they decided to show 2 on the first night. Still a 20 episode series, though......

    FRAK!!
Anyways, the best show on telly is back!!!...
So damn gritty and stylish, i really liked the opening two eps. You have so much going on, treason, betrayal, love anger... its all there. I like how the 'good' cylons Sharon and Gaius's no.6, want peace and are genuinely commited to good relations with humans, while the others couldn't give a toss, but unfortunately humans hate them so much, and it looks like there will never be peace between them (or the oppurtunity for it).

Damn what has Apollo been up to recently, the fat bastid clearly has turned soft. Surely a hot hot bit of gear like Dee would keep him well exercised...

I wonder will Helos Sharon will find out her baby is still alive, and how she will react..

(note, ep 2 spelling is a bit wrong.., should be Precipice)

all I can say is OMG, I had no idea. I really can't believe it's gone to where it's gone. It's a completely new show, and I'm loving it.

Just a brilliant episode! They had so much happen, and I really liked that Tigh had a major role in this episode as he was kinda on the sidelines towards the end of last season. Wonder if Starbuck is actually starting to have feelings for her daughter and but I doubt the holding of the guys hand is real but just a ploy to get a opportunity to get away.
Did anyone else think there were political overtones as regards to the real world events, an occupying force, training a security force and the people not putting up with it. Iraq anyone!?!

The final scene was jaw dropping, hope they didn't kill off Roslin, but more importantly Tom Zarek! Thought he may play an important role as a freedom fighter but maybe not! I suspect that Zarek jumped onto Roslin and shielded her from the cylon bullets.

Apollo is a broken man, hope he doesn't run with the fleet although it would make an interesting side story, the search for earth.

Delighted BSG is back! Thank the Gods!

A lot of people had doubts that they could pull it off, switching onto New Caprica, completely changing the dynamic of the show.....I doubt many of them would still have these doubts after seeing Occupation and Precipice.

I especially liked how Adama commissioned boomer before sending her on the mission.

Can anyone actually see Starbuck settling down with a child?! Obviously she's not gonna end up with Leoben, but herself, Anders and whatever the kid was called......I dunno if I can see them running with that.

Was thinking the very same thing, thats what i love about this show... so much human emotions, and similarity to real life events (aside from walking toasters, and the fact we can't go mach 10 yet..)

Yeah, i seriously doubt they'd kill off Zarek and especially Roslin, i reckon Tigh will have something to do about that (or maybe Jammer). Also i thought Zarek would fit the role of freedom fighter as well, unfortunately he hasn't been able to join the fight as he has been locked up by the cylons since they arrived.
Apollo is a broken man, hope he doesn't run with the fleet although it would make an interesting side story, the search for earth.
I think Apollo does in fact go looking for Earth, and maybe he should start walking back to Earth...

It would seem Roslin at least survives, she was in the season 3 preview at the end of ep2

It was pretty good, but for a season opener it wasn't as good as the last two seasons, ah well I'll keep watching, it's still better than most tv.

Favourite line of the episode, Adama to Apollo "I want you to turn around and get your fat ass outta here" lol, awesome:D

Wow, they really reinvented the show, and made a cracking opening with it. Putting the charecters in an entirely new setting has really made the charecters evolve, especially Tigh, loving that hes getting to show his dark side.
I wonder will Helos Sharon will find out her baby is still alive, and how she will react..
I was actually hoping that Adama would tell Sharon her child was still alive and well, it seemed to be building up to it in their first scene together.

Not too sure what to make of Apollo though, he has really stacked on them pies, and as was said in the episode he's turned into a real softy, he has no determinateion at all, he just seems to be looking to cut their losses and take the easy way out (and indeed, "I want you to turn around and get your fat ass outta here" was a superb line :D)

So much to say about this episode, Ill be remembering things to add for the next week, really curious at how Zarek and Roslin get out (loved Zareks comment "I really wish you went through with it", hind sight is a git :)), hope they both make it, maybe the NCP take up arms against them or something? not sure how they'll work it out.

I was really looking forward to the start of the new series and it lived up to the hype.

    A few things i suspect :
Bet they rapid age one of the half human half cylon kids and
I suspect the sharon the resistance met is just a another copy and the real one had not arrived yet as she was all alone (thought their was supposed to be others with her) or did i miss something.
Also suspect Leoben hurt the kid or arranged it somehow.

Great 2 episodes. I wondered how they would pull off the major re-invention of the show they started in last years season finale. They did great. Such a brilliant show, the 2 hours seem too little and I just could have watched for hours longer. It probably has something to do with the fact that I only got into this show when it came on dvd, so I would watch episode after episode for hours straight. Know I have to wait a week in between! :(

It was very comical how Apollo was so fat,and Adama's line to him was great. Did the actor really put on that much weight or is it a fat suit or CGI? He really let himself go,it is like something you would see in the simpsons or family guy.

Its a fat suit,he is still as fit as a fiddle.

    Yes it a bit illogical.
The Cylons have an endless supply of clones/centurions so killing them off is impossible.
The only thihg achieved is alienation and human deaths.
I honestly felt as if the humans are now the bad side.
To be honest peace with the Cylons would seem a good option ?

I never thought of that. We saw Tigh's wife taking the map, we never saw her give then map to the Cyclons, so we couldn't be sure she betrayed Tigh. Of course we know she did because the Cyclons found them and started shooting.

Season Two was also shown with a mid-season break.

    Fantastic couple of episodes.

Col. Tigh is back with a vengance. Particularly liked his speech (regarding the ethics of suicide bombings) telling ex-Prez to go shove her piety up her ass :)

Just to clarify for myself there are 3 kids now? Tyrol Jr., Agathon Jr. and Starbuck Jr., and the latter 2 are cylon/human hybrids, right?

I reckon Sharon Agathon will recoginze Agathon Jr instantly in the next ep or 2.

Far exceeded my expectations I have to say.

    Good points:-
    Tigh
    Suicide bombers FFS
Now that's brave in the US context

    Not quite so good:-

The Cylons ganging up on Balthar towards the end were like a bunch of naughty schoolyard bullies not a remourceless killing hive-mind. Seemed a bit silly to me.

Tigh's wife is not a very believeable charactor IMHO. Good to see her throwing her weight behind her hubbie though.

And speaking of which there was not enough sex in these two eps.

Excellent two episodes - really dark (as promised) and I love the re-invention of Tighe as one hardcore mother-frakker. I dare someone to acknowledge his order with "Aye, Aye Colonel"....But suicide bombers? Seriously a brave step in the US market.

The Caprica Kara Child is quite neat - a great way to test human emotions once more. I think she'll fall for it but I suspect the child was deliberately injured or, even worse, injured itself as it's hooked into a Cylon masterplan.

As to that ending? I suspect that
the gunshots we here are the good old Resistance members
but we'll see if I'm right.

    Quality, quality sci-fi.

Excellent opener to season 3! I don't think the suicide bombers will cause too much trouble in the states as scifi's customers are generally intelligent. Tigh has been turned into a really terrific gritty man, but I'm beginning to resent what the writers are doing to Baltar; how can the other characters ever accept him back onto Galactica when they eventually get back to looking for Earth? The fat Apollo is a bad joke. Otherwise excellent!

Excellent. The second part was much better than the first, which was only webisode quality really. The firing squad bit at the end reminded me a lot of the old World War II photos with groups of Jews being taken off and shot somewhere which made it all the more disturbing.

I was wondering about this while I was watching it and thinking perhaps they will go down the road of the original series and have Baltar living with the cylons evilly plotting the destruction of humanity.:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,510 ✭✭✭sprinkles

    Brilliant.

So much has changed. Characters have completely changed, Tigh and Apollo yet it seems so real. Tigh has really stolen the show imo.

Can't wait for the 3rd one. The resistance story is fantastic. It's making an already gritty show even grittier and there's nothing better in sci fi that dark sci fi.

    Hope they keep it up...

I know you put spoiler tags on it, but ffs anyway!

You should give more of a warning if you're spoiling future episodes like that.

    ..

agreed with everyone here anyway, great couple of episodes and fantastic to have the show back. Lee's fat-suit annoyed me though.. I think I shouldn't have watched that behind the scenes blog because it totally ruined the suspension of disbelief for me. It looked like a suit and he didn't carry it well.

I actually think it's two episodes. They're linked, sure, but then most episodes of BSG are. The next one will be Season 3, Episode 3 (afaik).

Almost did the same thing as you, but thought it was fairly obvious that people were talking about the two together before any spoilers were posted.

Do you know is it going to be a double this friday also?

Next episode is part one of a two parter (Exodus, part one).

    //edit,

I should really use google before asking questions... just one episode next week :(
In another of our patented feats of editorial derring-do, we've taken what was to be episode 3, "Exodus" and crafted two episodes from it, thereby obviating the need to shoot one more show. As it currently stands, we will be opening Season Three with a two-hour premiere of what were originally two stand-alone episodes, "Occupation" and "Precipice" ("Occuprice," as it were) then resume airing normal one hours with "Exodus Part One." Confused? Good, that's the way we like it. Gotta keep the audience guessing.

Stunning season premiere for Battlestar. Loved the way the secondary characters came to the fore, especially Tigh, as others have duly noted. Never shied away from asking the difficult questions and challenging assumptions. Will be interesting to see how the New Caprica plot resolves itself - something dark is coming.

I'm not a follower of ratings but came across this regarding the season premiere figures:
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - The Sci Fi Channel series "Battlestar Galactica" drew 2.2 million total viewers to its third-season premiere from 9-11 p.m. Friday. Although that figure was off from the Season 2 premiere, which garnered 3.1 million total viewers in July 2005, Sci Fi noted that the two-hour Season 3 opener was the No. 1 cable series Friday night. In the adults 18-49 demographic, the episode drew 1.4 million viewers.

    Source

Could the move to October be someway responsible given the highly competitive nature of network schedules in the US around this time of year?

Yep, probably cos its an October start so its up against the bigger networks.

Plus it started at 9pm when its usually at 10pm - some people might have tuned in late.
