Advice on selling car

    Would appreciate any advice.

Toyota Yaris, 4 doors, 1 litre 2001. Only 32K on the clock.

Its got a dent in the back rear door (scraped off pillar).

Also needs a clean up on the inside.

Would i be better off getting these things done myself first or selling as is and dropping the price? (whatever that is and how much should i knock off?)

They average at almost 8K private. How much should i ask?

Its a great little car but the only other thing going against me is the colour. Its a manky yellow/gold, very girly.

    Thanks in advance!

Getting the dent fixed depends on the severity and whether you can get it done (well!!) for reasonable money.

But, regardless of that, put in a half days worth of elbow grease and clean it up yourself ...costs next to nothing and gives a so much better impression of the car.

Personally, if I see a second hand car looking (and possibly smelling) like a pigsty inside, I just walk away. Because that is usually a good indicator that that car received no TLC whatsoever and possibly no proper servicing either.

Thanks for that. I do it clean regularly but needs a good professional job. I have 6 year old - need i say more.

Its not even due a service yet but i see what you mean about impressions and that.

    Thanks again

Go to a few back street panel beaters and get an estimate on how much it will cost to have the dent fixed. If the paint work is not damaged the door panel may just need to be popped out from the inside. It could be alot cheaper than you think. You can then decide if you want to get the job done or factor it into the selling price and let then next owner do it.

Regarding cleaning the car, you could get the car professionally valated inside and out, may cost over €100 or so but imo it is money easily made back when selling the car.

yeah its 120 for the valet but they pull out the seats and everything and bring it back to as new condition so thats well worth it, i got all sweet wrappers and crayons stuck in nooks and crannys i just cant reach!

I also spilled a bottle of soy sauce in the boot shopping one day and it reeks!

I'd get it professionally valeted if you're not willing to put in the time to do it yourself.

As for the dent, you might want to try the GP. Some places specialise in fixing dents and are not that expensive.

If you are near Skerries, try this place http://www.dentmagic.ie/

As for the colour...somebody out there will love it. My wife thought she'd have trouble selling her salmonly pink Punto a few yrs ago, but when the first girl came out to see it, she said, "I hoped it was this colour when you described it, I just love it"

    Thanks for the replies.

From reading some of the other threads e.g Big Dirty Dent! i think mine is a bit more complicated in that the paint is damaged. I hadnt realised there was a difference! But i am gonna make some enquiries. My neighbour told me of a really cheap place in East Wall or thereabouts.

Bit more than a dent..... but the respray costs the same even if its small or large, just an extra bit of filler.

I'm going to sell my car shortly and would like a good Valeter.
Got it done after buying but they didnt take out the seats etc and the last owner was an eater so there is still stuff between the seats.
Where is the valeter that removes seats etc based, cos I'd like to give them some business!!

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/

Wil have to wait until monday to get the number for you but its the same guy that dennis mahoney use to spank up their cars before selling them.

I bought my car from them and they gave me his number but i lost it.

I believe he was based at tolka bridge though. Will get the number again on monday.

Be careful when removing seats Longfield. I know my car along with some others have a cable connected to them for the airbag system. Disconecting it can lead to the airbag warning light coming on (dealer fix!).

You'll end up painting the side of the car to repair that properly, be prepared to spend around 5-600 euros for a decent job. I'd say with that colour you'd get arounr 6.5-7k euros for it, they're a great car but a slow seller.

Thanks tbh i would be happy at this stage to get that for it obviously 7k would be nice. I paid 9k for it lst april but i was always told that driving a car out of a garage knocks off at least a grand plus one more for every year older it gets.

slow seller? I can never keep them in stock. even manky coloured ones!

I think a selling price of €6,000 is more likely though. poeple won't pay main dealer prices for it.

yeah i bought it off a main dealer - more fool me eh.

Thats disappointing though especially with only 32K on the clock i thought that added to the value (what the dents take away :D )

aw well maybe i will keep it til i run it into the ground, wanted to get a cheaper car and free up some cash but no point if i'm gonna get something less reliable and that needs work i will end up paying more with repairs etc

anyway thanks for all the advice!

bear in mind that almost 6 years ago, your car when new would have cost the equivelant of €14,000......
