    Hi there,
My friend and brother are looking for a notebook with a minimum resolution of 1050 vertically, this rules out 17" widescreens because as far as I am aware, the max res vertically on these is 900. So I think the only option is a 15". Not sure about 19" but they are probably too expensive anyway. Looking for one with a DVD burner and wireless internet.

Also, does anyone know the minimum spec you could get away with playing CSS on?

on the dell 9400 you can upgrade to a 17" UltraSharp™ Wide Screen WUXGA (1920x1200) TFT Display with TrueLife

thanks again jsb, they are far too dear though I'm afraid :(

I had a Gericom Ego laptop, bough Dec 04, it had 1400x1050 and would be perfect for my friend and brother. I can't find anything like it now though!

Think it's out of stock :(

Plus I had a Gericom myself before and had problems with it.

A laptop like that would be perfect in or around the same price. I just can't find one anywhere:(

You could try for this: http://cgi.ebay.ie/DELL-PC-Laptop-LCD-Inspiron-9400-Scratched-H14WC2J_W0QQitemZ270036492268QQihZ017QQcategoryZ177QQcmdZViewItem on Dell's ebay outlet, or keep an eye out there, not sure if it's going over budget though.

    Hi,
Thanks for the link, but I think they would prefer the more square screen. I'm surprised there aren't more 15" high res laptops :( It's impossible to find one Under 1K.

    No worries, I'm using a 15.4" Inspiron 6400 with res 1680x1050, it's widescreen though which isn't ideal.

Yeah unfortunately that wouldn't really suit I'd say. It also seems the ones with the high res have the high prices too. I'll try another few places resources anyway but if anyone knows of anything that would suit, please let me know:)

Any screen with SXGA+ is 1400*1050

    Dell, IBM, Sony whatever.

nice didn't know that! That should bring up some clearer results:)

Also I'd say you needed to go for a business oriented laptop....most of the home user machines seem to be widescreen as standard these days.

Unfortunately, business laptops won't be a bargain as such, unless you pick up nearly new or refurbed...

Been searching around and it's a pain in the ass alright. Seems all the SXGA+ are discontinued and yep, the only ones are business and priced high.

I think Ebay is the only answer!

Yeah I've done a search for ones that ship to Ireland. There's about 20 of them, the ones with DVD recorders are quite dear though. It has to be 15" too so unfortunately the one you linked to is too small :(

They are looking for 15" 1400x1050
    DVDRW
    Wifi

    for under €1000 delivered.

    Thanks for the help anyway!:)
