I'd google for it , hope you get over it, it must be a very tough thing to happen to you.

Whenever I google it I get really horrible results, it has a very low survival rate (have seen figures of 10% over 5 years) and I can not find anyone as young as me who has it (am 32) - just wondering if anyone has relatives who have survived it.

Cathy it's been breaking my heart seeing your story. It is a fairly rare illness and I'd say most people have never known anyone who had the disease which probably explains the lack of response to your thread.
My uncle had oesaphageal cancer aged 47 about 5 years ago and I remember doing all that googling and seeing those depressing results. Unfortunately his outsome wasn't good but he didn't actually die of the cancer but a postoperative complication possibly caused by an unknown pre-existing weakness.

However.. this is the part I do want to tell you... I know there was another man in my home town who had the same cancer at the same time and he is walking around fine and healthy now. I don't know anything about him, his age, details of his disease or anything.. I just know my mam sees him often. So it is possible to survive that truly horrible disease. The stats when you google are awful and I truly feel for you having to go through that. I 'm not a doctor or anything but I'd say your age will be a huge benefit to you and increase your chances greatly.
I'm really sorry I can't be of any more help to you than that.
You're going to need a lot of hugs in the coming months so here's one from me
