    it actually is reasonably accurate with regard to the law on intruders one one's property as far I know

    A hurley makes a find weapon....
    Gives multi impact options (edge/flat etc).

    And sure every good Irish home should have a hurley by the door :D

    It is fairly accurate representation of the Lawful Use of Force, but the thing to take into account is the force you apply in defending yourself must be "reasonable in the circumstances as the individual percieves them." Meaning that you don't get to decide what is reasonable. A jury decides that and what you might percieve as reasonable somoene else may not.

    Although you should also note that the the court does not expect "Detached reflection in the presence of an upheld knife" so if you hit someone harder than necessary to stop them then that shouldn't be a huge problem.

    People have gotten away with carrying around guns under the old common law version of this rule, so draw your own conclusions from that.
