    www.moo.com

If you can't be bothered going to the link -it's a flickr associated thing - those familiar with Rymus' blog will have seen them already.

It's a set of ickle dinky thin business card sized prints of your pictures from your flickr stream, on thick card, with something of your choice written on the back. They were giving away packs of 10 for free, but they got snapped up pretty quickly, so I've just ordered a pack of 100 for $20 with free shipping which I thought was pretty good.

There's also a flickr group with pictures of the moo cards that people have already ordered which is quite interesting.

I wish I'd managed to get them in time for People's Photography though. Ideal if you're a street photographer and want to give people your contact details, or you shoot the public at an event or something. Waaay better than loads of copies of the same picture on ordinary business cards, I think.

Hmm... I know it sounds like an advert, but that's just because I'm still excitable after ordering them. Just a quick warning about the cropping page though - if the previews don't load, just click the 'reset picture' link and they should appear. Generally a painless process, apart from that.

Now I just have to wait for them to arrive :(

Great concept, will be doing mine tomorrow!!

You get to choose as many pictures as you like! If you choose 50, it gives you two of each, or if you choose 2, it gives you 50 of each... give it a try, the cropping experience is great fun.

I won't get them for reasons of being cheap and/or not wanting a credit card, so I get to miss out :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,966 ✭✭✭elven

Cool, looks like they are pretty popular then :)

Fenster, I feel your pain with the credit card thing, I'm currently lamenting/ranting/getting generally pretty upset about the fact that nobody online takes Laser and there's no Visa debit here in Ireland. It's only by chance that we have one from the UK to use for this stuff...

But anyway. Good to see they look the part Rymus, thanks for posting the pic :)

Making mine right now... just cant decide what text I want on the back! There's always something isnt there :)

    Thanks for the link Elven.

I have sent away for 100 for my musician friend Gerry. I'm using one of the high contrast B&Ws (255129766_d2d9fc59ee_m.jpg) that I showed here recently.

It will be interesting to see how they deal with it.

do they work outside Ireland though?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 7,830 ✭✭✭unklerosco

Well ive used them within europe n they work fine... Dont know about the states.. Said to work anywhere that takes Visa(apart from online gambling)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus

Ah ok, was just wondering if its possible to top them up without having an Irish mobile phone/being in Ireland.

Maybe first post was badly worded. What I meant was, if youre living in the US, can they still be used? I would hope that anyone living in Ireland would be able to use the vouchers anywhere that accepts VISA.

There was a girl handing these out as her business cards at BarCamp last week and I just had to get myself some.

I have exactly 100 photos on flickr so I just put them all into the moo cards... some will have monkeys on them... it's going to be hard to give these guys away.

They do look pretty cool, but they are far from being cheap business cards when you think that 6x4's are cheaper per print when you order 100 online or that you'd get even a small run of 500 business cards for less. But they do look cool.
I wonder if they'll start doing actual business card size ones as well once they're over the initial hype, because that actually would be really really cool.

Aye but the difference is, the 500 business cards would all be the same design, from what I've heard this is thicker cardstock, you can't order them in about 5 minutes, and you don't normally get them printed double sided. The flickr integration was a real brainwave. There's quite a few elements that make these better, from a fun perspective. I think the smaller format also makes them more cute, flippant, less serious, and easier to hand out like you're not trying to sell yourself, it's just a bit of fun. And it's not like you'd hand out 6x4's, either. I think the size probably makes them more tactile.

I expect they will launch a whole range of stuff, this is their first big marketing exercise obviously that will give them the strength to be able to create new products, and I can't wait to see what else they come up with. Those qoop (?) minibooks seem to be doing well, although they are more expensive. ($65 for 3 I think)

It's just nice to have something other than mouse mats or mugs to get your pictures put on.
