Based on Jeff Lindsay's novel "Darkly Dreaming Dexter," this new crime thriller tells the story of a strange man named Dexter Morgan. Once an abused and abandoned child, Dexter is now a successful forensics pathologist...but lurking just beneath his charismatic personality is a terrible truth. Dexter has corralled his innate homicidal urges into a closely guarded second career: He hunts down and brutally murders those vicious criminals who have managed to avoid the clutches of the law.

A Thread per episode is a bit OTT. I watch about 12 shows weekly.... that'd be poll-tastic

A downright brillant episode.. re-iterate some of what i said in the original thread for the pilot but it's got great writing (especially some hilarious dialogue between Sgt. Doakes and Dexter ("
i didn't come over here to invite you to my son's briss!" .. "you're Jewish?" / "take a crayon and scribble this down psycho
), great acting from Michael C and is truly a very dark and quite disturbing piece of TV...

.. but it's excellent enthralling viewing. Much recommended!

I watched it last night and absolutely loved it.... I was a bit 'meh' for the first 15 minutes, but then I really got into it.

Anyone else feel that the show had a neat claustrophobic edge to it? I think it was down to Michael C. Hall being in every scene and, coupled with his monologue, forced us tightly into his world. Very unusual to give such a leading role to anyone in a TV show.

Good epiosde not as good as the 1st episode btw this whole topic per show instead of topic per episode is a load of crap

No not reley shows are aredy getting the can like kidnapped :(
i still say that u get ALLOT more feedback with single topics per episode than you would with one topic per Show

I love this show.. both episode 2 and 3 was just downright enthralling viewing.

Would have probably preferred some more of a plot advancement on the IceTruck Killer in episode 3.. but loved the Broncho dialogue in episode 3.. and Dexter's comment after learning of it.

What i really love about the show is how Michael C Hall is so endearing in that main role.. i mean we should hate this character. But he really does make him out to be really kind and naive.. and just shows how much of a talented actor he is.

As ixoy said, the feeling of claustophia bound with his monologue really does add something different to the show.

    Looking forward for more!

Just finished with ep3. Holy crap, easily the best new show this season. It's Showtime, so I assume it's a short run, like Sopranos. Otherwise I can't see it lasting much beyond a first season, the premise is just so exact that it's all bound to fall apart for Dexter sooner rather than later.

I'm enjoying the non-main stories too with Sgt Doakes (sp?) and Dexter's relationship with Rita.

eta: I know Sopranos is HBO, but aren't Showtime and HBO kinda the same, cable channels that show short-order intense dramas? Perhaps not, I know very little about US tv stations

For me this is the star show of the fall season. I've always been a big fan of this genre.

I'm just confused. You lads are talking about watchin episode 3 already, but it only airs tonight???

My cousins were holding out on me. I sorted out their behaviour in short order.

Great episode! I can't wait for episode 4!!

    Cheers

That is part of the point of the series to make you connect with Dexter even tough he can't connect with anyone.
To have people feel uncomfortible as they start to relate to and be on the side of a siocopathic serial killer.

Just watched episode 3. Very good show. Great central character.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,195 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Just watching episode 4 (and is excellent as always) but just spotted another Oz cast member.. an in-mate but looks very different in this!

    Anyone else spot him?

Will give my full opinion on the episode at some point tomorrow.. back to it and then some BSG... these late nights are playing havoc with my working day! :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,296 ✭✭✭valor

    Pretty cool show

Why is he never called to his own murders?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,870 ✭✭✭mikeruurds

Episode 5 is another winner :D.

I'm a bit disappointed that this show is only going to have 12 episodes in the first season

I think its best that way.

Better to have a quality season long story arc over 13 episodes, than to have the arc over 20eps punctuated by poor filler episodes.

It worked in BSG's season1 favour imo, plus im sure there's other examples.

Good show, a slow start, but getting much better, really getting into it.

Anyone else get the feeling from ep 4 the ice-truck killer is
    his long lost bro??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,788 ✭✭✭tvnutz

This is a great show. Recently got all the eps so far and watched them all. Disturbing and bizzare, with a touch of comedy thrown in! Very good show.

Probably best it only has 12 episodes. It works well for cable shows, you don't have filler eps, every episode is great!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,195 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Yep.. the show just gets better and better!

Michael C Hall is fantastic in the main role.. never really seen him in much as i never really watched 'Six Feet Under' but he's quite an actor.

Can't wait to see how the rest of it unfolds!

Great News! Dexter has been greenlit for a second series!.

There is justice in the world.... :)

    Fuppin' excellent news! :D

Showtime bringing back their two best shows - Dexter and Weeds - kudos to them!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,195 ✭✭✭✭Basq

This week's episode was one of the best so far!

Downright enthralling stuff from start to finish.. except the sidestory with Laguerta and the little boy was a bit meh but will probably give rise to a future story!

FX will start airing this in the UK & Ireland in the New Year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,870 ✭✭✭mikeruurds

I vote for prosthetics doctor as the ice truck killer :D

This week's episode was excellent! This show keeps getting better each week.

Who knew that Tito Ortiz moonlights as a sociapathic forensic pathologist.

The prosthetics doc has gotta be a red herring. Made it far too obvious with his backstory ("I studied anatomy ... my mom was an amputee ..." etc.)

Great episode.. and what a show!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Love this show. What an ending:
    Who the f**k are you?
    :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,788 ✭✭✭tvnutz

Great show, keeps getting better. It will be interesting to see how the weird guy knew all the info about the ice truck killings when its seems he isn't the guy.

And I also got the feeling it has to be the doctor,or is it a red herring?

Loved Dexter's smile at the very end. Lunatic :p

Yeah Basquille. You must be right... it's a little too obvious

if its too obvious then maybe its a med student studying under the doc or something maybe a med student who recently arrived in Maimai

Good show if somewhat disturbing. His sister needs to be slapped a few times with acting lessons though. Hopefully she will die soon.

As for the unknown killer thats obvious
It's his girlfriend, I mean all the clues are there!

I was considering that for the last few episodes alright..
wasn't there a couple of exchanges between her and Dex where she mentioned her past and was very coy to talk about it.

And not to mention it would be a wonderful turn of events for Dexter.. wouldn't it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,081 ✭✭✭BKtje

Pity that theory was blown outta the water today, woulda been interesting. Least they didnt keep us wondering too long ala Lost (dont get me wrong, i love lost but dont want all shows to be like that :p ).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,217 ✭✭✭Matthewthebig

Well it is two 3rds of the way through the season. So in deep enough

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,195 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Just sitting down to watch it now but first thing i noticed.. just 36 minutes runtime?! WTF with that?!

Episodes up to this have between in between 50 minutes to the hour mark.

Out-f**king-standing episode.... the closing scene confirmed some peoples suspicions, and its going to make for an interesting last few episodes....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,195 ✭✭✭✭Basq

    Twas a great episode.

But was a tad disappointed at the obviousness
of the doc as the Ice Truck Killer.. i mean bringing in a new character this late with dialogue like "I studied anatomy..." - i assumed and hoped he would be a red herring.. but wasn't to be!

He's hoping we get another twist before season end!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

    Is
the fact that Debs is now in mortal peril, and she may find out about Dex's extracurricular activities before the end of the series not twisty enough? Does Doc know that she is Dexters sister? Was that a happy coincidence, or part of his master plan?

I think things are starting to get very interesting....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Has anyone read Darkly Dreaming Dexter, or Dearly Devoted Dexter?
Might be worth picking up for a bit of Christmas reading after the series ends...

The third book (Dexter in the Dark) is out next year.

Yeah, there is still plenty to keep us going.
Maybe it was i was hoping they'd keep the Ice Truck Killer's identity guarded til nearer the end of the series, but i suppose there is only 3 episodes left in the current series.

Am planning on ordering them this evening when i find the best price.. but not reading them til after the end of the urrent series as the show apparently follows quite closely to 'Darkly Dreaming Dexter' .. don't wanna spoil it on myself!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Yeah I was reading the reviews on Amazon, and the summary for Dearly Devoted... kinda spoils something that happens at the end of Book 1. Nothing major, but I'd have preferred not knowing.... so DON'T READ THE AMAZON BOOK REVIEWS!! :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,195 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Phew... was just browsing over the Amazon titles when i flicked back here.. so didn't spoil it on myself!

Still, they're good value at Amazon.co.uk (they still ship books to Ireland, don't they?):

    Darkly Dreaming Dexter @ £3.99
    Dearly Devoted Dexter @ £5.59

(beware of spoiler-ific REVIEWS as TmB said!)

Great episode, great show. I can't believe there are only 3 episodes left this season.
I didn't really mind that the doc wasn't a red herring. It makes it more interesting now that we know who he is and that he is involved with Dex's sister. Michael C Hall is brilliant, all those scenes with the therapist were great.
